From what I've heard about your (PA - MD) wet weather this past summer, it may have actually picked up moisture from being 2 year dry.

The weather is crazy, we had a dry summer, only mowed the grass about 5-6 times so far. 3-4 of those times have been in the last month or so after we started getting some rain. And we're dang near neighbors.
I filled up one of my carts about 2 weeks ago n parked in garage ..it holds 1/10 of a cord..dehumidifier runs all summer long in there so i thought it might help with what wood was on the outside of my stacks and it did. I kept track of the rain we got here at home...since march...67"s of rain to date..
Do you have any real results from the dehumidifier? Just curious really. I have been running mine hoping it helps
Yup, have family in the belgrade lakes area they report dry weather as well, very strange. Adapt and overcome...
My splits are on the smaller side compared to many....3-5 inches.. The peices that got wet were runnin 20-23% on the outside....fresh split wasnt bad on the inside...18-20%. Today i checked several....15-18% outside....17-19 inside fresh split... Some oak,locust n maple...all 3 years old
I have low expectations for my wood this winter. Just went and grabbed a few sticks of ash out of the stacks. We shall see how this goes.
I wonder to what winter will bring...the thing i hope for...if we get precip...i hope its snow n not freezin rain. You can move snow....freezin rain...not so..slip n fall...down trees n power lines,etc
Not sure exactly where you're at but according to usclimatedata.com State College (about 20 miles north of me) gets 39.6" of rainfall annually. We may end up almost doubling our annual average
Warmest, Driest Sept on record this year. But before that, was a wet summer. Oct been 5° to 10° above avg but raining A lot. (Rain today) 4 year+ Birch was in shed 3 years is pretty dry, 5 cord of it in basement now. Burns good, been shoulder season burning for a month.
Well, I put about 5 pieces of ash in the stove last night since it was gonna get down into the 30s. Really wet, as in rained on all morning. It sizzled and spit a good bit for about 10 minutes, mostly close to the bark, and at the tip of the split. Not nearly as bad as I would have expected.
I’ve been there, too, with the disappointment, past years. This year’s wood is good- split in March of 2016 and single-stacked, top-covered out in the open. Our early summer was bone dry (feeding cattle hay in June), but then it becomes more normal. Usually I move the stacks into the woodshed in early November, but my wife was antsy to do it sooner, and I’m glad, because it does seem to be a little damper than normal here. I did stack a couple of double-stacks this year for the first time in many years, and hope I won’t be starting a disappointment thread in 2021!
