    Holy crap that's a big chicken! And I thought our roo was big!


    We had another fox attack today WHILE I was outside. :headbang:

    One pullet was missing for around 3+ hours, I thought I saw her get away but wasn't totally sure. The fox had a wad of feathers in its mouth, but I was pretty sure no chicken. I nearly tackled it believe it or not, boy they are fast! By sundown, the missing pullet arrived back safe. Must have went in a tree or something! Only lost 1 so far, keeping fingers crossed!

    Well our oversized rooster died today. I was home late, Dawn found him. Rigor mortis already set in, so he was dead for a 1/2 to 4 hours. Looked it up to see if I should process him or not. Rule of thumb is to do within 2 hours of death above 70°, which it was, so we buried him instead of risking it. It's gonna be quiet around here. Dawn wants another roo this spring. Its for the best, we weren't sure what to do come winter. He was so big, he didn't fit through the auto door, so he'd have to really squeeze through, so I usually brought him out and put him in at night. He had 2 girls that liked him alot, they were just standing on the ramp watching his still body while the others were already roosting. Poor fellah

    It happens to us all: we lose a chicken and no-one understands how sad it makes us feel.

    You tell family and friends and see their eyes glaze over. You try to find somewhere to leave your tribute and can't find it.

    Well, now you've found it.

    This is a place where people do understand. Chickens may be bottom of the pecking order, but their lives are worth talking about.
    Chicken memorials: pay your tribute to a much-loved hen or rooster.
