Been a few colder than normal nights here then early Sunday morning it was raining. Now the house is not only on the cool side it feels damp even. Time to fire up the furnace. Didn't take long had a flat split about 10" wide laid that down laid a couple narrow splits on each side that were about 3 inches wide. Piled slivered kindling in between and another wide flat split on top then the chunks. Fire up the torch get the kindling going and shut the door. 10 minutes have a nice fire going. Daughter had texted me she was going to the Packers game. I reminded her I had went to Ford field once to see a lions game and will never again. Not just because the lions forever suck but it was not enjoyable for me. So as I sat in my recliner enjoying the heat radiating thru the floor to make the living room comfy I texted her I saw Graham score the first touch down. She texted back she didn't see it the guy in front of her was so tall she couldn't see so was watching the end zone big screen. As we are texting back and forth she said she was in the bath room line and hoped she would get back in time to see the half time show. I told her I had just went to the bath room and there wasn't any line here. But of course we in TV land don't get to see the half time show any way. I banked the furnace up for the night and it is really comfy here this morning despit Nigra falls changeing course and hitting the house roof. Rain is washing my skidded up logs off. Al
I was tempted to build a fire in the NZ3000 on Saturday night, but I resisted..... It's almost time though! We generally build our first fire the 2nd week of Oct, that's real soon. Forecast this week has highs in the 80s and lows in the low 60s, so we got at least one more week yet.....
It's getting to be that time of year where a sunny day gets the house warmed back up nice from dropping during the night. Won't be too many more days and a boost from a morning fire will be welcome. A rainy, cloudy day will require maybe an afternoon fire. Time to get some pine and kindling on stand-by.
We've had several fires. I was surprised that the wife wanted a fire this morning but fire she got. She is doing laundry and it is wet outside so they will be dried mostly compliments of the wood stove.
Run it whenever you want, I agree. My wife tends to over do it though. Last night, she had it on. It was 91F at my desk. Had to turn it off. Today, raining again, so cool and damp. I'll have the stove going on low because it is 50F outside. Want to keep the damp cool out and the warm and dry in. I've seen some folks move away from stove heat. prices seem to have stabilized and some have become accustomed to paying them. But for me, I want the comfort that only the stove can bring.
Wonder how old those posters are? I vaguely remember stuff like that on the wall behind the pot belly stove in my Grandfather's office in Texas. Very titillating for a young boy!
