Cuttin and splittin almost everyday

I split some oak and maple but id say that fresh pile is mostly hickory which is not my favorite to split but i love it. Topped off the other stacks with the long splits for my stove. I also found log slippers to go with my new FHC hoodie

Woodwhore Do you have any pictures showing more of how you process your firewood? What role does the chain and pulley attached to the overhead beams above your splitter play? It almost looks like a stationary lift system for getting big rounds on your splitter.

 

No, i actually use that pulley for deer and sometimes I skin sheep for the local farmer when he loses one. He lost about a half dozen in the last 4 or 5 months heat/worms/ caught in the fence. Big rounds ill either stand the splitter up or use the maul to half or 1/4 them. Funny you say that cus i just picked one up yesterday and tipped the whole splitter back. Thats why i should half em.

 

I wish i could even wear slippers, my feet get too hot.

 

I just layed down a bunch more pallets and would like to get a cover over this wood. I took this pic from a classroom last minute. That big blue four legged tri pod behind the soccer net isnt safe for the kids anymore. I think it might fit rt in that section between the stacks. Its a swing that broke at my school and the wife has given me permission to use it with a tarp as long as i get it to look decent. The screen porch and pool are rt there so she likes to have it neat. I have 6 hickory trees that im taking down on my front lawn, like iv said i love that wood but i dont enjoy cutting it or splitting it. Their shagbark and they say they collect sand in them as they grow so they are tough on chains and iv learned to wear the helmet with the screen cuz that bark shoots up at your face Im sure some people wish they had as much hickory on their land as i do and dont get me wrong i Love it. It beats splittin elm.

 

Theres all the hickory, im trying to decide if i want to do it leaves on or wait till winter????

Other than to get the wood, why are you taking down the hickory trees?

 

Dang, I was hoping you had come up with a way to pick up large rounds to get them on the splitter without having to have a lot of welding experience to build a crane

 

That would work too i bet. Save it for when im older.
