Every piece of wood adds to the final goal.... . When I started out years ago, I promised myself to take a break after I got to the three year mark..... Here I am at the six year mark...
Today I got an offer from a friend who's having a dead standing oak taken down. I thought I was done collecting for the year!
Funny thing is, the 3 year old oak I'm moving from the patio to the basement is from the same friend. I'll have to put the new oak in the same spot, because that's the best empty space to put it! At least I got to clean out all the old leaves stuck back there.
Stack it with that locust. Keep the wood in rounds, and split it when you have room for the splits. You are good for this coming heating season, so, there shouldn't be any rush. Time for a new wood vault!
Maybe time for Midwinter to buy some land with acreage? Might need the room to stack wood the way she is going.
I have all the yardwork I can manage with a third of an acre, bushes to trim, lawn to mow, gardens to weed, pool to maintain, patio to sweep, all of which take a back seat to wood processing!
Yep. We went and looked at 8-10 blow downs red and white oak. Got to wait until deer season to get it though. Maybe give me time to get more CSS at the house.
I got a look at the dead oak my friend offered me. Not very fat but plenty tall. Bark falling off of it all the way up. She says there are quite a few in her neighborhood like that. No word on when the tree service will come, they told her "in September". They are taking down a pine at the same time.
Absolutely! The dead standing wood is a jump on the 3 year plan. I've been treating dead standing wood as a part of being 3 years ahead. Well, at least until I literally have 3 years ahead in stacks. You'll get there fordguy64 ! I'll get there too as well, but as has been said, it's not a race. Just staying ahead of the game is the big deal.
When I cut wood in the winter, my favorite time to do so, I look at it this way. Every day I cut more wood than I burn, I'm ahead.
