I'm not planning on living at the house I'm at now for more then 5-6 years but want to put up a wood shed. So my thought is I would better off getting a metal carport and then I can take it apart and take it with me when I move. Anyone know where I can buy a kit? They are advertised around here for as low as $695 for a 12x21 installed but I'm thinking I should be able to get a kit and put it up myself for cheaper. Haven't talked to anyone yet though that will sell just a kit.
Would be a selling feature. 5 or 6 years is a long time, you'd get a good return. Leave it & build a new one at the next place ? $700 seems like a good price, be tough build one that size for that price out of wood, plus your time & gas money to & from the lumber yard.
With a portable woodshed that you're planning to go with your eventual moveā¦ you'll have an instant woodshed at your new location, if you needed it too. Good idea.
I like the portable woodshed idea too. Thats actually a great idea, something I haven't heard of on here until now. How would you temporarily secure it to the ground?
They are built with a square steel tube at the base and I think they just run an anchor into the ground. When I move I should just be able to take those out and the take the pieces apart and move it.
From calling around I found only 1 dealer that will sell it without installing. 5% discount and voids the warranty. Really looking like it isn't worth doing myself and just have it put up.
Ya I really like my current system with the pallets racks, but with also having a UTV I want some more options. I think in the carport I'll just stack the wood in there and pack all I can in there. The pallet system doesn't look as good as a neat woodshed will. So I am happy to clean up the wood area. If I didn't have neighbors I wouldn't worry as much keeping it neat but want to stay on good terms with the neighbors.
I hear you. Having covered , dry storage sure is sweet. Nice neat looking & full of wood, The step by step pictures will in demand soon. Betting others will want to use your idea.
The one I am gonna buy this spring is the same size, it's 12 x 21 but I am getting the upgraded anchors (tornado rated) and it's only $795 installed. For that kind of money, I'd rather them build it and keep the warranty. Even if your only there 5 years, the warranty for 5 years is worth the extra cash. IMO.

$695 installed is a smoking deal. Can't even touch that price around here without installation... http://www.menards.com/main/buildin...s/12w-x-20l-x-6h-bayport/p-2179790-c-5865.htm
Yep. That's the one. They have 2 styles of anchors. One looks like a 3 ft piece of Rebar with an eyelet on the top (standard) and the other is built more like an auger (needs spun in the ground) that's about 4" in diameter (tornado rated) IIRC it's $100 more for the 6-8 anchors needed for a 21' port.
Well I settled on an 18x21, it's only $100 more for that. I didn't upgrade to the heavier anchors because I can buy those and put them in. They just drive rebar into the ground for anchors but I can add to that. Figured with an 18x21 I can leave an isle down the middle and put my boat and tractor in there.
