I'm by far no expert, still a greenhorn when it comes wood burning but this post caught my eye. 1st wood was split in Jan 18 to be burned this winter. If it was pine or something that seasons quick, ok but post says oak.2nd that moisture meter pic sticking it in the end getting 7% reading was funny. ReelFaster if you're thinking about it, I'd take a visit and ask him to do the MM on a fresh split as others mentioned. He does have it split fairly small, with plenty of airflow. But, if it's a full cord, 128ft^3 of oak for $230, it's not a bad price in my opinion. Just make sure you get a Full cord's worth of wood, and that it's dry enough if you intend to burn it this season.
Yeah, Chaz is telling the truth here. If it's actually a full cord of seasoned oak for 230..? Idk what you guys pay for that in the north east but here it's at least 3oo so....
A mixed batch of hardwood, maybe seasoned runs from $55 to $75 (per face cord, 1/3 full cord), delivery always costs more. So you're generally looking at $165-$225 per cord. Usually around here it's Ash/Beech/Maple as a general rule. Can't say I've seen anyone selling all Oak, but then again, I'm not looking all that hard either.
Well, out here you can get Arizona White Oak. It needs to sit at least 3 years before you even consider burning it and to be honest I'd give it more. The people selling it, as you can imagine, tell you it's dry after a year and it will run you at least 300 a cord and I don't even know what the delivery cost may be. I'm just thankful I don't have to deal with any of that mess due to my job.
Skeptical. Didn’t Pennsylvania just have one of the wettest summers on record. Jerseys right there Poking the end doesn’t tell you what the other 98% of the wood is. The one year I used a MM I had oak that read 7 on the outside. 35 on the inside. I learned from that one year that it’s never dry enough
Around here, oak split and even some amount of seasoning goes for 300 a cord all day long. That does look to have a nice amount of seasoning for the time, with loose stacking and lots of air flow. Now, yeah, this guy needs to learn how to properly use a moisture meter.
That CL listing is higher then most selling firewood around here. I mentioned in another post $165 - $190 for a cord of wood. Definitely do your homework before buying. That guy either does not know much or is trying to bluff his way through.
I'm a south jersey guy who sells wood and if it has full sun and wind it will be ready to burn. $230 is good if it is a real cord. I get $250 30 minutes away
