Awesome! Do you get weights on your moose in Alaska, or is that not a thing?

No weighing them. Alaska doesn’t have many roads so you can’t get a truck and trailer to get them out whole. I got this one about 55-60 miles off the pavement, used a Polaris Ranger 6x6 and 14 to 16 hours one way out.

Well done Rope! The work is always worth it once the meat is in the freezer.

I had a month of use or lose vacation, I have been moose hunting and in the wilderness since August 26 and returned today September 20. Had to come home/town twice to resupply. This season had several phases first few days were with the wife and three kids, we were hunting 60-80 miles north of the house. About day five the wife and two kids had other things to do.

My youngest son and I headed eighty miles south of the house. We spent about six days out lots of cows and no bulls. He had a cross country meet. And we meet mom at the trailhead, he took second place for the district. I went back in for a few days, nothing to show.

A couple buddies and I grabbed the jet boat headed east, 60 miles launched and went 90 river miles. Spent 6-7 days, James has not got a moose in 3 years so he got to shoot first. He got a 40” on day two. Dropped it in the river and we proceed to spend about 16 hours and 3 comes come-alongs getting it winched up a cut bank the butchered on a muddy silt bank. Nothing more on that phase.

Then back to town to drop meat, buddies and boat off and back south to him to sears on end or tag was punched. A different buddy and if I would take his 77 year old dad hunting, as he had to work. I had to honor of hunting with a retired Army Lt Colonel from the 5th SF group. He did four Vietnam tours, Iran and various middle eastern countries from the mid 70’s to ‘82 when he retired. We had a blast on the second day at 1629 hours Sept 19 we were raking the brush and moose calls. We were about 50 yards from the ranger where his rifle was. I saw a small section of the paddle, told Mr. John tried to get him he 20 yards to me to shoot the moose. He goes I am to short to see over the brush, shoot that, $&”&$! It was about a hundred yard shot with a 338 win mag, 225 fe Barnes TTSX. It took us about 2 hours to butcher and have the ranger loaded and trek out to civilization. We got back to the cabin had some tenderloin, eggs and coffee cooled down with Baileys. Blessed to hunt with a fellow veteran. The smiles over the last two days are the blessings, with the moose being the cherry on top.

Mr. John and I have some winter hunting trips planned. A Dall sheep hunt for next August, and moose next fall.

Thank you, sir. It’s a beautiful place and I am blessed to live him, I am fortunate that my wife was willing to move up. The kids were young so that did not come into play.

Thank you sir! It’s a blessing to be here, lucky the wife was willing to come up. My kids growing up here are fortunate, they have done and seen things that many will only dream of.
