Up north to me is central and northern Aroostook county and the north Maine woods west of there. I grew up in the Caribou/Presque Isle area and my wife is from Caribou. We lived in Ashland and Portage Lake when I worked in the woods industry in the early eighties, which is west of there on the edge of the north Maine woods. I’ve spent a lot of time and done a lot of business up along the Canadian border in the St John valley and the Allagash as well. It’s where my heart still lives.
Caribou is a good 6 hours north of Waterford.

I haven't done anything with wood since spring. Between the heat, rain and a month long bicycle trip there hasn't been the conditions or time so I can relate to your situation! Wish I was closer I could lend a hand in the poison ivy patch cause I'm one of the lucky few who are unaffected by it. Be careful with that nasty vine.

Started today with kindling. Bought a bundle of boards from a sawmill. All odd sized stuff and basically scraps from sawing. Got it for strapping for a metal roof on a shed. All the unusable stuff is kindling. Got about 3 more loads like this to put away. 25 degrees cooler and I'll think about cutting and splitting the real wood.
If anyone needs some kindling I'm on a 30 year supply.

I have a container of dish soap I keep in the shower. Any time I'm working in the ivy, which is often and often means weed whacking, clothes get dropped off right in the washer and then it's straight in for a head to toe dish soap shower. Has worked fairly well so far.

That's an insane amount of kindling. How do you plan to store it?

Is $50 for 2 cubic feet too much? It is nice clear dry white pine.

For $50, you better have it packaged in some kind of fancy shmancy wrapping.

They do keep things dry, but at usually a high cost. Unless your woodstove is your dehumidifier, then dry on!!

We use kiln dried white oak pieces... mennonites have a mill n make oak flooring. All there scrap stuff they throw in one of those big lope boxes. Pieces are always an inch thick n vary from 2 to 14 inches long. They charge 20.00 for a big lope box w skid....they work pretty good

Its a whole house unit, not bad to run. Usually just run it a day a week but if it's really hunid we let it run. We also don't have ac so it does help a little. Once we fire the boiler it's shut off.
