With all the heat and humidity, I had little interest in getting more wood. Our focus the last 6 weeks or so, has been picking and preserving the harvest. Canning, pickling, fermenting, & freezing the bounty. I was driving down the road yesterday and saw some downed tree trimmer gold. Well, you can figure the rest... I'll be back later for more. There is a ton of it, Red & White Oak. Due to time constraints I didn't get a full load, but I will next time. Of course, it was all in a sea of poison ivy, I guess I wanted it that bad. I just use caution. DSCN2013.JPG DSCN2014.JPG

I'll step on poison ivy when the leaves are green and flexible, but when the weather/season starts getting colder and those leaves start getting brittle and more easily releasing the urushiol - no way.

Get what you can so so your sleep isn't interrupted with visions of oak by the side of the road.

I used gloves and held the logs away from my body, I stepped carefully between the plants when possible. Then I used the Dawn on my hands and forearms when I got home. Thanks TD!

Thanks Marvin, me too! I can’t watch to fire it up again. Looks like later next week we might get the chance.

I was out for about an hour this morning and it was all I could take. I prefer it below 70 with a low dew point if I’m doing anything much outdoors.

That's why I try to get my wood done early, so I don't have to do too much, or any, in June, July, or August. I then pick up the pace now, c/s/s. I got a cord and a half to do. It's not need for three years, so I'm good.

The only way to go. I never messed with wood in the summer months either. When I was buying it before I always bought in February or early March as soon as the last load went into the cellar for the winter. This is the time of year to start filling the cellar racks again. When we lived up north we always did that around Labor Day, and a lot of years we might have had a fire or so already.

Thats south west, up north is north of Houlton (which isn't really considered up north for someone from Caribou, it's south east) Maine has a lot of different sayings for places. I'm in what we locally call central Maine because it's the geographical center of the state but they call Augusta central Maine and it's an hour south of here. Me and the wife are from up north although she's south of Houlton but still in the county.
