Fellas, the rain and work have me so far behind that I'm considering having a mini-GTG here at the homestead in a few weeks. It will be on a Saturday, yes it's short notice but I honestly expected at least SOME decent weather this summer, we just didn't get a lot of it and on weekends that we did have it, well I was booked up from backed-up jobs and chores ...

Would anyone be interested in coming over for a long day? Mainly splitting, I can get a couple logs to mill with the chainsaw mill also. I'll provide food, thinking about a big iron kettle of ham -n- beans over the keyhole pit and homemade bread. I'll have 3 or 4 splitters on hand......some different styles we can all try out.

And as always, some fireside chat around the pit, with an array of beverages afterwards.....

Just seeing if I can drum up a handful of interest before I decide to do it or not....

    Well......

What is considered "central PA"? Williamsport area?

Would that be the last weekend in September, or first in October?

Probably one weekend or the other, not sure yet.

I'm just southwest of State College.

    Understood.

Depending on the weekend, I do believe I'd make the trip. Arrive Friday, head home Sunday, more than likely.

I'm definitely interested. Saturday September 29th is not good for me. I'm taking my son to the Penn State v. Ohio State football game. This would be my first FHC GTG. It would be great to place some faces with avatars. Keep us posted. Are you in the Bald Eagle/Tyrone area? If you'd like me to bring a dessert or something let me know. My wife makes great apple crisp, cupcakes, etc.

Fun name. One of the Office gals who lives near me said she loves to split woodland. Thought about inviting different folks over for a bonfire and stuff, including splitting my rounds.

Just got a name for it.

I would love to be involved in something like this Scotty. But I can't make promises and it is doubtful I could even do much splitting right now. Shoot, Armbru84 even stopped over to help me out with some of those big white oak logs (remember taking down that double white oak?)a week ago. The reason is my one arm is a bit sore right now. In fact, I'm going to have it x-rayed in just a little bit. Dr says he can't give me any corisone shots until he is sure it is not broken. That about floored me as I never considered it might be broke or cracked. But I don't think it is. Still, I can't do much with it. Its even a struggle using my right hand to reach for the handle. It sucks big time.

But keep me in the loop please.

It would be fun to head there but I am in the same boat you are - wet summer and so far behind I may never catch up. I told my son we were splitting and stacking this weekend and the goal was five cords in the woodshed. His eyes bugged out and he said, Dad that's 16 hours of work. I told him that I'd allow him a couple short breaks for bread and water.
