Those are oak rounds, cut by the tree service for the homeowner. They burn wood when the power goes out. They are paying someone to split it for them.

Sick little girl had the daddy's bigtime today. She was sleeping on me most of the afternoon. Tomorrow definitely doesn't look like good cutting weather. Maybe Tuesday morning? Just need to make sure my schedule jives.

    Wait.. What??

You should ask them how much they're paying for the splitting.
Coulda been free wood right there.
Maybe some $$ in the pocket as well.

I mean heck, I split wood for free around here.
    ;)

Sure, give it a try. There will be 2 smaller trunks and the big one left. I continue to take wood out, I'd like to be done by the end of the week.

They're paying $150 to have it split. Believe me, I don't need that job on my plate as well!

I had to visit the Jordan's Furniture warehouse on DW a little while ago, so I swung by after. Looks like you had already cleared out last nights work.

Today's effort...cut the butt! First, got the trunk behind it out of the way: IMG_20180911_47175.jpg Then, the first cut to separate it from the trunk. IMG_20180911_56404.jpg One cut was a little off... IMG_20180911_1455.jpg but was easy to fix. The log was hollow and full of rotten wood. IMG_20180911_21647.jpg It was pretty easy to roll, just took a push. IMG_20180911_5414.jpg Splitting... IMG_20180911_34234.jpg Split! IMG_20180911_4058.jpg
    Loaded up... IMG_20180911_45183.jpg

They have various health problems. What their motivation was for selling me the locust for $150 after paying the tree service $8300, your guess is as good as mine, I think they were just being nice. He agreed after talking to me on the phone, without meeting me.

Lol I've had an absolute hell week so far. Two weeks worth of orders in two days, plus my regular work on top of that. Literally feast or famine

I can make it later this week. Maybe cut Thursday afternoon and load Fri am?

That's a lot of oak for "in case of power outage"! Hope it doesn't rot on them before they use it

That would work fine, and it shouldn't take long, if I split while you cut. I bet we can get you loaded Thurs afternoon, if you have the time. I'll cut & take the twisty trunk today and leave you the two straight ones, that should be enough for a full load.

Lured by fresh black locust, the shy and elusive Mwalsh9152 ventured out into the open, and I was able to capture the encounter with my camera.

We got the job done in about two hours!
There's a little bit left for me to take tomorrow. It was fun, and I learned a lot, but I'm glad this job is over.

Sometimes you just have to find the correct bait to lure the reclusive ones out! Probably oak would work too!
