    Looks good for 1st attempt!

I just draw lines from corner to corner, center 1st tile on top of that, make sure it's square, and go outward.

Yeah, I know. I just had to go with it before I got too paralyzed by indecision and trying to be perfect - then being upset that it wasn't perfect. Now I've learned a few do's and don'ts along with gotten a bit of experience so it won't be so daunting next time. And I'm perfectly happy that it came out not too terribly. Glad it was something innocuous like the stove pad and not my kitchen!

Ran into a unforseen speedbump and want to pass it on for opinions. I found some dryrot underneath my door. I will be cutting out a door in the foundation later and was thinking of putting underneath the other door since I have to work on it. The rotted board and sill isn't part of the floor joists as it runs the same way as the floor joist. I will cut it out and replace them and was wondering if something else I can do.

Regarding buying a new clothes washer, I am currently doing this. Just really bad timing if you know what I mean.

Turns out Home Depot now delivers here for $120 fee.

I've called Lowes several times over the last couple days and have yet to have the person that knows if they do indeed deliver here pick up the phone (goes back to the front desk after a few minutes, lather rinse repeat-I made it 16 minutes on hold today).

Sears will deliver here LTL for free, but I am kinda sold on brand they don't carry anymore (Maytag), their sale ends in a couple hours if I go with them. $830 for front loader and pedestal after the coupon discounts game.

Glad you found the rot now. Something failed or not done right to get water from the door down there. Is there any flashing of sorts under the door?

You can do the whole transaction with Lowes online. You can do a chat, or call them. get all your answers.

Cable DVR been acting up so called Atlantic Broadband a week ago. I was told what I already expected-"you've had it since 2009, it should be replaced".
    Following transactions
-Told to take it in and have it swapped
-asked if I have to go to Belmont (my servicing office but 45 minutes away) or if I can go to Rochester (20 minutes)
-told I can go to any office
-asked if I should call first to make sure they have one available
-told "no they will always have one"
-On Saturday I go to Rochester and I am told "we dont carry those boxes here you have to go to Belmont"
    -GRRRR

-At Rochester I said heck with it, set a service call and make them come to me-woman at Rochester agrees and sets a call for Sunday 11-2
-New procedure from Atlantic-she says they will call you before coming and if you dont answer the phone, they dont come. Make sure you are by the phone frpom 10am until they call. GRRRRRRRR

-Get a call around 12:30 from cust service-tech is 40 minutes away.
-Asked if they will have a box with them and was told "they should"
-Non Atlantic truck shows up (outsource contractor)
-Very nice man comes in, tests the signal and says "I dont think its the box, its the signal" Funny, they all say that
-Explain the issues are on playback and the box is old
-he starts to go about replacing connectors all over the house- 2 other tvs and the internet modem
-checks signal where it comes in the house and goes up the pole
-comes back down and replaces the inbound splitter
-tells me last tech left the pole connections loose and one unconnected that needed a termination
-finally says he is still replacing the box and does so with a not new but a "refurbished" one. FINALLY, what he was actually here for as I havnt had signal issue

-Plugs it in, calls the office to change serials and activate.
    -Packs up and leaves
-as he leaves the driveway, I see that the front display doesnt work properly
-Call Atlantic to get is azz back here.
-Put on hold for 5 minutes as they get hold of tech and finally told "he says he gave you the best box on the truck"
    WTF !!!!!!!

This guy spends an hour doing things that didnt need to be done and never checked what he was here for. Or did he know he had a bad box and wanted to beat feet before I found out?

Now I am going to Belmont sometime this week or Saturday as I am not taking time off from work or waiting around on a weekend for a non company person to fck things up again.

Thinking of dropping their DVR and getting a TIVO.

Actually...I anyone asks, you reply...I wanted it to look the way it is, CAUSE ITS COOL
    Yes...Start in the center.

I have done some large rooms in tile and there is a SECRET...houses are Never straight and rooms are never square.

You get your approximate center and set up temporary datum lines, then check to see if the side walls and end walls are parallel (Rarely so) then you initiate the FUDGE FACTOR to allow things to come out looking good.

The same trick is used when laying PERGO (Laminate floating floor)
The individual planks can be cut to reach the wall with the prescribed expansion clearance (Just inside the baseboard molding but out of sight)

The end of the room where the planks (tile too) reach the opposite wall its real nice if things can stay parallel to the wall rather than having to deal with cutting angles and tapers.

We did our living room with Pergo and the room was SO SO one way (Narrow way) but the long run saw the end wall 2 inches off from side to side :hair:

Some tweaking was needed and the final planks had to be cut on a taper.

The end result was fine as the wood grain covered the fact that things were askew some.

After the base molding was nailed to the wall it was really hard to even notice unless you knew where to look.

    Houses are not straight. :(

    It's the learning curve B

We all had to get through it.

finished excavating for the footings on Saturday and did some topsoil removal / grading work. had an 800 lb. Wacker - diesel, reversible - cool machine. borrowed from one of the local contractors. had a borrowed Dingle as well, but the guys felt it was way too touchy on the controls to be of much use in the trench.
Joe was busy with the dragline all weekend.

Sunday we started clearing a new area to remove gravel from as I need about 300 cubic yards. We plan to move our screener to the work area and change the screen to 1 and 1/4 from the current 3/4 for gradable material. Will get another 100 yards from the site as well.
That's my RV in the background. If you don't have a waterfront campsite, make one!:D

There is supposed to be flashing that goes over the ledger board and up under whatever was used for the outside of the wall (clapboards, vinyl siding, etc.) if the ledger board is pt the flashing must be copper or aluminum.
