Well... it is red oak! Found a free add on FB. Probably a 20 minute ride. Ambient was 91 today with a real feel of 98. Yup, it's a big ole chunk! All the while I'm thinking, please no metal, please no metal. This pic shows another tree the home owner said I can take. I need to find something to yank it outta the weeds with. A few seasons ago I broke my long chain. I ended up getting all but one slice of the big guy. It got dark on me. The scarr 394 is fully broken in now. It's an animal! Completely laughs at a 24" razur chain. Oh how I love red oak. But I think I sweat out a good 5# of fluid. My clothes were drenched. I'm going back till it's all gone so HOARD ON! Pics to follow. I didn't even unload it yet. I hopped straight in the pool to cool off. Huge mug full of ice water and 2# of grapes later, I'm ready for bed.
Dandy firewood in a few years! Looks like you made a job of it. I wish I had more room to store wood so I could get Oak and other longer cure time wood.
I view big wood like that as a challenge. Not for the faint at heart. Separate the men from the boys. Hoard on.
I saw that ad too but it's almost a 2 hour drive for me. There's not a lot of free stuff very close for me. Every so often I'll find something. Unfortunately I dont have a truck yet though......

You ant lying!!! My cross cuts didn’t go all the way down so I didn’t hit ground/stone so I had to use a metal wedge, maul and a 5’ pry bar to break them off. I’m sore this morning.

Ya, those work. Here is what I was talking aboot.... A little stronger and will allow the grab hook to still be used on the repaired link and won't snag as easily as a cold shut. We keep these, split ring, quick links and clevis style repair links here at my work.

Amazon has them of course...they are commonly referred to as "missing links" or "peen" style repair links. Admittedly...they are a little tough to dig up on the ol interwebs. I kindof take their availability for granted I suppose? Campbell Chain makes them, Crosby also...not sure what other manufs. make them.
