Our daughter shared this photos with us and said I could share them with you. The trip was to explore and clean up some remote beaches off the west coast of the north island. Except for the box, every thing went in the kayak They were headed out there across the water into the fog and to the north west side of Brooks Pennisula It started out not too bad so they put up the sail The water got pretty wild with 6+ ft waves. One reason they didn't take the dog with them. No more pics until they get to their beach Another reason not to take the dog was the wolves. Here are some of their tracks. My daughter's footprint is ladies size 8
Here are more pictures of the beaches This was one of the beaches that they cleaned up. She thought a lot of you would be looking more at the wood on the beach. This is what four people in three days manage to clean off the beaches. It will be packaged and flown out to be recycled and garbaged. The helicopter came and started taking out garbage from their area and a couple of others that were cleaned by other groups.
I don't have these in order. I am just posting them as I think you will like to see them. Every good FHC holiday thread must have a picture of this. As it is the fog zone, it is probably one of the few places in BC where you could have a campfire. There is a painter in our area by the name of Stewart Marshall. For quite some time he painted watercolour pictures from his kayak as he traveled around our area. The below picture is what I would call a Stewart Marshall view. Many times from our sailboat, we would see something that would make us say - It's a Stewart Marshall picture.
The weather coming back from Brooks was a lot better. Their traveling companions took some pictures of them. The rack with the tires on the deck is their kayak transport. They used it to move the big bags of garbage around. My SIL's hat is a typical west coast First Nations hat he had made for him. When they got back from Brooks Pennisula, we delivered a new tire and their dog. Beta was glad to see them and headed straight into the water.
One final panorama view for you. They didn't have the truck available for the trip so it was made in their Subaru
Woodwidow Thanks go to your daughter for letting you share her pictures with us. I guess their trip did happen cause they had pics.
Love the pictures. Best vacation wife and I ever went on was on the west side of Vancouver Island. First place we ever got into a kayak. Got us hooked and we are still paddling over a decade later. Thanks again for sharing.
Very cool pics Woodwidow! Tell your daughter thanks for letting you share. Those wolf tracks would have me nervous if it was me out there
Thank you Woodwidow for posting those beautiful pictures and thanks to your daughter for letting you share them with us. That is beautiful country out there and hopefully one day my wife and I will be able to see some of it up close and personal. One of our sons did some work in BC a few times and he also brought back many pictures and he loved it out there. The kayak is a big one and looks like they can take along lots of things. I was not aware they could handle the big waves though. They also did a very good thing in helping to clean up the beaches.
It is so easy to lose something overboard and if it is plastic, it floats away. But there are still people who dispose of their garbage overboard as well. Out of sight, out of mind.
