Out-sourced a new guy to clean my stack this year. Roughly 30 year of experience on his side. I have a straight shot with no elbows or bends roughly about 16ft of pipe. He did something my other guy has never done. Now mind you I get the stack cleaned every 2 years after about 18-22 face cords of burning. After he was done he gave me the verdict. He said "About a half inch by four"..I didn't know what he meant. He explained that the creosote was built up about a half inch all around the top of the stack and it was about 4 inched down. He then said if that was all I got after 2 full seasons of burning...Don't change a thing. He recorded it in his book and said" See you in 2 years"... Glad everything went well and now I'm officially ready for Old Man Winter....
Yep, doin' it right! It's always that last little bit up at the top that gets the worst buildup (well, it is for me). I hope my lasts for 2 more years.
Sounds like everything is in good order Nordic Splitter I've never hired out for cleaning, just do it myself, but it would be interesting to get a professional opinion.
I have pretty much the same setup, and I get my stack cleaned every year. This thread reminds me, that it's time to call the chimney sweep.
