My uglies bin has been falling apart for a while now so I tore it down last night and then had a brain storm. I went on Craigslist and found some IBC totes, called the woman who owned them and bought two for $150.00 She wanted $100 a piece but I told her I had to drive 75 miles to get them so she gave me two and $75 each. One is now going to be my new Uglies bin, I cut the top off, drilled a bunch of air and drain holes and it'll never rot out !!! My other will be my "emergency SHTF" potable water tank for down the line when I get to New Hampshire. They hold 275 gals. I'm soaping/soaking it up as I type this.
Wow, and I can even get a phone call asking $40 for 'em! They do make great "uglies" bins! With the red lid on there, I think those were used to hold some type of chemical...dunno how excited I'd be storing potable water in it...
They came from a winery! They smell like fruit punch inside. Actually smelled real nice but "Strong". The woman,"owner" said they had super concentrated grape and cranberry juices in them. She said also they were food grade containers.
The lady is "Right" down the street from you in Sewell if you want her number, tell her I told you and she'll give them to you for $75.00 a piece. They make a super bin for small stuff! I have her address and phone if you want, PM me.
For the record here and to give credit where credit is due; I saw Leoht's wood bins a while back and it hit me when I was planning a new uglies wood bin. I think he's got about 100 of the things full of wood... So the IBC containers are his idea.
Thats what i use for my uglies too, however I took the thank 100% out, its just the cage and works great! Good find!
They're hard to come by down here. I had to go dam near Philly to find them. Glad I did though, the termites ate my old pallet box to pieces! But thats normal here, If you look at any of my pics, my wood is all on plastic pallets. I was pulling stuff from the bin it collapsed. The termites had feasted for the last couple years, not any more!
Once I get everything moved for the winter, I'll start. Usually Oct and Nov is my cutting time, not hot, cool evenings, nice C/S/S weather here. The December starts to get wet here. I got a hit on two nice oaks someone wants taken down and a fairly easy job. I could "not" do what Scotty does, "I'm just to fat"!!! Besides, climbing trees are for Squirrels and Bears! Scotty has the bear part covered! I know my limitations and If I can't bring a tree down safely, I won't risk it, and I think I do rather well in the tree dropping field. I'm not a logger but got a year or two experience.
This is our uglies and shorts bins, I set them on cap blocks and cover with tin. I can move them with hand truck or FEL.
