While you're making your log catcher you may try using a work mate bench in the mean time.

Its pretty much the same machine except it has the "log cradle" style beam. I'm not sure I like the cradle design as the smaller splits will drop between the cradle tracks. Otherwise it seems to be the same. It might have a shorter cycle time or maybe its a shorter length cylinder, IDK, seemed to go a bit faster. Maybe the pump is a hair different?
One thing I am sure of , it runs quiet compared to the other one. Better muffler or just not blown out yet.

The briggs & stratton 675 has no choke lever???

just a primer bulb. the neighbors had a choke lever but he says it doesn't do anything,

took a few pulls to get it started when i got it home. Probably flooded from the bouncy ride.

Sheesh. I have half a dozen of those thing laying around here. Couple of new ones still in the box. Now, I'm going to have to go out in the morning and set one next to the splitter and see if it's the right height. Looks like a great temporary solution! I've been meaning to talk to my welder about making me a log catcher for my Huskee splitter, too.

Better adjust the shocks on the splitter then. Add air.

JeffGu By using a work mate bench you don't have to worry about switching to vertical operation then back to horizontal. I like the flexibility it gives me.

I like the foot plate extension on yours. that would be handy sometimes in the stringy stuff

That slips over the foot plate and it does a great job allowing the wedge to cut all the way thru the wood. Works really good with elm and hickory.
I bolted it togtether when I first made it but finally got it welded up and it works much better.

You just leave it on all the time?
Really no reason to take it off. Maybe to go vertical...

I do leave it on most of the time. One has to clean up under it every once in a while. Dirt and little splitter trash gets stuck under it and will make it rise.

The cradle style beam has drain holes at the ends. The one I was using was like yours, seemed to be harder to clean as it really packed in the corners tight

I do not have any drain holes in mine, and you are right about those little pieces getting jammed in tight. Scrench works good for prying the stuff out.

Update on this thread. It's been almost three years and I'm solidly on the four year plan. And I've barely scratched the surface here. There are so many tops here that there is just no way to get it all. Not only that, but the BTU gods are still providing and I can't even keep up.:faint:

    Wow! What a wild ride!

I'd rather save a Saturday for John Lawler's next cut. It would be great if we could help them out.
