Looking to buy a new saw.

I'm looking to buy a new saw. Would like to go with something in the 70cc range, most likely Stihl due to local dealer. What do you guys recommend and why? I have a 291, 310 rebuilt to 390 that's not always the best and a 066 that runs good until it decides to break something. Want to stay in the ballpark of 1000 to 1200 bucks or so.

 

The only answer is a 461/2 whatever it is now.

 

Wasn't to sure how the 441 would stack up.

 

Also I should say not completely opposed to other brands.

 

Don't know how far ur away from any husky dealers....375xp is a nice saw....

 

I don't have a lot of experience with huskys but the little bit I did they all ran good. We've always used Stihl everywhere I've worked.

 

If you have a good Stihl dealer then go that way, same for Husky. If you want the Stihl, wait till you can get the MS 462, soon they say. I've run one & they're a sweet saw. Calling Armbru84

 

Question I have is what are you mainly looking for? It’s really hard to beat a dolmar 7910. With that said...I have both a 462 and 572. I think both are going to be solid saws in the long run. No doubt the 462 is lighter. I find the 572 to have more torque though. If your wanting something now I would choose the 7910 or 461 personally.

 

I have a ported 441 arctic that is an awesome saw. To me it handles great and has a lot of power. Though I grab the ported 7910 first

 

I read they are pretty nice. I don't need one today so I'll stop in and ask them.

 

Quick get a Stihl 461 before it goes M-tronic! You won't be disappointed! Some of the M-tronic saws are good but some have a lot of problems. I have a 661 and have been fighting problems for 2 years! After my warranty ran out I did some mods now it's good to go!

 

Yep 461 or 372xt husky unless you want the new new stuff. I'm not sure if the 462 Stihl and the 572xp husky are available yet.

 

So I took blacksmith advice and decided to stay away from mtronic. I bought this hat and got a 461 with it.

 

I would have told them no saw unless the hats are buy one get one free. In that case I guess they could throw the saw in too.

Sure did! I always carried the 461 as my backup saw when I used the 661. I knew once the 661 got hot and was shut off it was finished for the day. And after MUCH hassle the Still Regional Service Manager picked up the saw from the local dealer and finally fixed it. It had every electronic part replaced plus two new carbs. In the end there was a problem with a solenoid built into the first replacement carburetor hence the second carburetor. Now the thing starts with no more than 3 pulls, cold or hot and after, maybe, 8 tanks of fuel it's a beast. My 661 was an early production 661 built in the first year of the model so, as with all new things, Still needed time in the field to get all the bugs in the saw and service system worked out.

My 362 CM is a great running saw, never a problem. I run a 16" bar/chain combo on it and it's a blast with the short bar!

 

461 is one heck of a solid work horse. Congratulations on a great saw.

 

How much is a Stihl nowadays, about a grand?

 

You made a good choice jetjr! I wished that I would've bought a 461 instead of my 661. Now since I have the bugs worked out the 661 is a beast!

What size bar do you have? I have a 28" and I wouldn't go with anything less. Less bending over when limbing out a tree once it's down and long enough to take down most trees in one shot! Good luck with your new toy and you won't be disappointed!
