Been doing a little splitting and stacking getting ready for winter. I have lots more todo but will leave some to keep busy during winter. I have just a few more vacant areas for wood then I will be good.

That is very impressive.:salute: It looks wide open there, probably very windy. Good for drying your firewood.

Man, I wish I had a chunk of land to put wood on. Living in the city is a pain.

    :bug:

What system do you run Mag Craft ?
How much wood do you go through in a winter?

We went through 3 cord this past winter.
If I had your stacks, I'd be nearly 5 years ahead.

Mag, I understand that that is an ideal place to dry the wood with the wind and all but also wonder if the wind ever gets strong enough to tip over a few stacks? If so, that would be a good case for stacking 3 or more rows together like this:

Hey, you are doing fine. It does take a lot of work to get ahead. I remember the last time I was down to the point where I had to buy wood. In 1984 I injured my back. I kept thinking that I'd be able to heal and get back into it. Well, I was finally able to get back to working but not like I used to and for one year I had to buy some wood. Actually that probably was the trigger that forced me to somehow get back to cutting wood. I got a really small Remmington saw with a 12" bar; super light. Started cutting what I could and just kept cutting a little more than I needed. Then after a few years I sold some wood to a guy who is a seller of wood. Made a deal with him that he cut and split the wood and leave me 1/3. That got me over the hump and I've managed to stay ahead of the game ever since. Also for the last 3 years in a row, I've cut logs (8') and stacked them then at the gtg the guys buck them up and split most of it so all I have to do then is stack it. Being in my 70's, that is a huge help. And yes, the back is a bit better but there are still days... Like yesterday. Could not do anything all day so sat and drank whiskey and coke and took a few pain meds. Got me through. I'll take it easy again today.

Hope the back is doing better today Dennis.

Injuries can sideline any of us at any moment. I'm so glad this site exists, as I've learned a lot since I initially found FHC.

I go through about 3 cord a year just like you. So yes I am ahead pretty well, but it is not just about dry wood it is also about making sure there is plenty of wood in case of injury or illness.

Well you do make a good point. I have stacks that blow over every year during the winter from strong winds. Something to consider thanks.

And don't worry about the wood drying. It will do just as good in 3 rows together as it will in single rows.

That there is some nice stacks. I wish I had the open flat area to stack like that. My land has more bumps and curves than Jessica Rabbit. Plus most of my property is shaded by trees that aren't on my property, so not alot of room to stack in the sun. In the past year I had to restack about 10 times. I am thinking about putting together a huge pallet bin, probably 20 by 20, and split it right into there. Let it season there. I know it won't get the best exposure, but it's one of my only options. Seems like I am spending half my time stacking.
