I wanted a splitter with a log lift and hydraulically adjustable 4 way wedge. I attempted to have Alex of A. E. Metawerx make a custom unit but could not get it done this year. Too bad as his are the nicest splitters I have ever seen. Anyway I picked up a used Iron & Oak Commercial unit with the above features used along with an auto cycle valve. Since this is the fast cycle version it is 22 ton. Honda GX 340 runs like a top.

Very nice setup Firewood Bandit ! With the log lift feature I suppose you don't ever have to go vertical with the big rounds. Hey, could you do me a favor? Send some of that sun and dry weather this way. This has been the dreariest, rainiest summer I can ever remember. Thanks.

You aren't kidding. We are usually begging for rain at this point in the year.

The "auto cycle" is quite handy. If you just pull the left most lever it operates the ram like a normal one, pull both and the ram extends fully without touching further and it automatically retracts. Cycle time is very fast on this one, 8 seconds.

Running it by myself is not efficient, I need at least one person to take splits off the work table.

Mine is similar, less the hydraulic 4 way. Have you thought about a conveyor off the end of your table? That's a nice rig!

I rake the rounds off the pallets, split and move a few feet. A conveyor would make it more efficient but it is an eyesore I can't have in the yard.

I had an ash tree pushing about 22" in the front yard I disposed of yesterday. (Thanks to the ash borer). The splitter works very well and the log lift which I didn't think I would use much was very handy. Before rounds that size would have to have been busted in half to pick up or split vertically which is kind of a hassle. There is a learning curve to the 4 way and often it is best to lower it all the way and split like a conventional. The fast cycle time on this machine really speeds things up.

On bigger rounds, try putting the 4 way in the middle & quartering the log, then re split the quarters with the single. Works well for me, I just have to adjust my 4 way by hand.
