I got my class B CDL with tanker endorsement on Tuesday! I will now be a back up milk hauler at work as my primary function is in QA/QC. However the company I work for is a one horse stable kinda operation and if I ever need another job a CDL driver can always find work in Appalachia.

I didn't go to school or anything, I just read the manual dozens of times and watched you tube to get the proper format for my pre inspection. Then practice, practice, practice.

Congratulations! I've heard there's a shortage of truck drivers.

Thanks Eric VW! I went and bought a STIHL MS362-C after work to celebrate.

Every truck driver who delivers to the plant says the same thing. It is difficult to find employees who can pass a drug test and want 40+ hours.

    • Just curious, have you actually driven a milk tanker loaded yet?

    Nice work!
    I got my CDL "A" about 11 years ago...took me 2 try's :emb:
But in my defense, I went to the trooper barracks to take my test the first time...got "Mr. Super Trooper" for my examiner...I come to find out later on that he doesn't pass anyone the first try. :hair:

Yes! What you are referring to is called surge. Milk is transported in a smooth bore tank and is unbaffeled. If there were baffles in the tank the milk would be churned into butter.

Milk is also transported at night because tankers are not cooled, they are only insulated. All of my driving has been from 9PM to 6AM. If milk was transported during the day the sun would beat down on the tank, the temperature would rise and negatively impact the quality of the milk/cultured products.

From the last farm stop to the plant there is no need for coffee. The surge of product in the tank is there and has to be accounted for.

Where I took my test I got the feeling they wanted to help people to have a career and the instructors were there to help. Now, a guy failed when I was testing but he couldn't name the engine components on his pre trip inspection. He may have been a decent safe driver but he still failed.

I spent well over 20 hours practicing my pre trip. I also read reviews on each testing facility. Some go easier than others. Some are a downright racket. I am glad I put on my time and it played off my permit expires in September.

I would be pizt off if I had to take the test again.

I did the same...from what I've been told Ohio is one of the few states left where you can still get your CDL without going through a "truck driving school"

 :rofl:  My maternal side of the family is like that, kinda gave up 25 years ago, but......though my neighbor turned cleaning lady turned very close friend, I still did it to a lesser extent before she got to the house too  :rofl:

(too bad she moved to another state).

Idk, with how I can function now and you have huge obsticles too, just fix the icky stuff before she arrives, like you said, she'll clean it again anyway. Many women show love by taking the burden off others by cleaning (kinda like the way to a mans' heart is through his stomach with good cooking).

    Good job Ohio!

I was a milk hauler in the past ast and have hauled about everything you can think of.

Any pointers needed send me a pm. The real money’s in class A semis around me. Those tanks loose about 1 degree every 15 hours Some of the newer tanks even less. I’ll tell ya the slosh will pucker you good in the winter if you don’t pay attention...

Even baffled chemical tanks will punch ya in the backsides if you don’t watch it and take your time...

Well heck, at least she gives you an excuse for not being able to find tools while working. I can set something down, right next to me, and turn around to pick it up and not be able to find it. I'll search the entire house, twice (at a minimum) before I can find it again (right where I left it - just somehow couldn't see it :headbang:).
