I have always been puzzled by those who get the huge, multi -feeders. And then awed when I see videos of a bunch of the hummers all feeding. I have never had a feeder than more than 1 was allowed to feed at a time. Sometimes there were obvious mates, but even then, only 1 fed while the other kept look out for encroachers. The only way I could have 2 active feeders was to put them on the opposite side of the house (front porch and back deck). If they were on the same side of the house, they would run themselves ragged trying to protect both.

I thought it might be a ruby-throated thing, but I've seen videos where there were a ton of them at a feeder. I guess in this area they are just anti-social.

Sorry about your water. Does this only happen in the summer, with plentiful flow in the winter?

My thoughts also. I've seen those vids of them in swarms. Nothing ever like that here. They will drive away any other hummingbird. Very protective of their territory.

All day drive for a 1/2 hour doc appt. We'll make the first 100 miles in the 1.5 hours, then the last 15-20 miles in town will take another hour. Crazy, huh?!

We understand. I'm not sure what size ours is but it is like yours. We have to fill it every day. Not sure how many birds we have but more than we've ever had. We also had to move the feeder this year because we took down a tree by where the feeder used to be. So not the big feeder is really close to a kitchen window so when I'm at the table I can watch the birds only a few feet from me. Love to watch them.

5 is the most we've had feeding at one time.

Changed cards in trail cameras. Showed my colors for sure. One camera did not have a card in it. Duh... No pictures from that one this week.

Got the shed tore down. A little clean up to do yet then pull some stumps.

Caffeine break. And my youngest daughter made a home made chocolate cake with red raspberry preserves in the middle yesterday. Delicious. I only ate half a piece because that with the can of Pepsi should be enough sugar for an overload. o_O

More mowing with the M59 today. Nice weather. Getting pretty warm. About 78 already and suppose to go to 80. When I get done mowing I will put the York rake on and get a couple areas into better shape.

Time to call it a day. This was an earlier break in the shade.

Almost all mowing done. I worked the morning hours at home yesterday and then went into work on overtime for 8 hours. Not much of a first day off. Time to take the rest of this day off. A nap in the A/C is in order. And then head to my son’s soccer game with the family. Relax one way or the other for the rest of the day.
