I wonder if that could be used in the smoker?

It burns hot and yes, you can smoke with it. Great score!

Not sure if they're crabapples or not, but I've got some here and I've enjoyed smoking with branches.

Not sure diameter I kept would be great. Think you would want 2 inches and below for smoking??? I have never smoked with any kind, but have given away some apple and cherry to others

In my opinion, 2-3" is good size for adding to the smoker.
Just use the lopper to cut to around 5" length, toss it on the charcoal as needed.

Try it on some chicken or pork, you'll be pleasantly happy.

Hockey puck thickness cookies up to about 6 inches diameter can be wacked with a hatchet one time or 2 and quickly become nice chunks for the smoker

Yep, then I soak it in water overnight if the wood's not really green. More flavor & smoke imho. Nice score!

Regular old farwood splits resized on the chop saw work great here... cherry and hickory get the treatment before providing the extra flavor.

Crab apple should be great. Thorn apple, not so much.

Processed the crab apple today to firewood size. Hit a bullet at full throttle in the center of one piece. Dang it!

Been there done that more than once, still kinda pizzes me off. Always seems to happen on the newest chains too. Firewooding hazard I guess.

I haven't been lucky enough to have cut a bullet yet. Is lead and copper as bad as steel nails screws etc on a chain?
