So this was something that we have wanted to do for a long time and finally it worked out so we decided to make it happen. I will say the hot tub has really helped loosen my back up and we have used it way more than I thought we would. I know it's not the fanciest tub out there but the price was right I wanted to make sure we would use it before actually spending good money on a new one. I kicked around a ton of different options and we considered pouring a concrete pad and building gazebo over it or trellis but in the end we decided we wanted it as close to the house as possible so you don't have to traipse across the yard. I decided to cut out a section of our deck build a secondary deck and then wrap the other side of the deck around the tub. I ended up building the secondary deck heavy duty enough and much bigger than needed just in case I decide to get a bigger one in the future. Here is what we came up with. Took me two weeks of working on it off and on but in the end I'm happy its close to the house, like two steps out the back door! Getting started Drilling the post holes. Each one is a 4"x6" post, 16" in diameter, ~36"deep, and has 80# of concrete at the bottom I then set each post with another 80# of concrete around it. I double headered each row of posts. Then I built the deck on top with 2x10 lumber set 12" on center
We then got the hot tub set in place and wrapped the deck around the tub. Once the lumber has dried well enough I am going to stain every thing to match. I had to extend the right side of the deck out to meet the hot tub as the opening was to large. I made it so that if I get a bigger one it will take about 15 minutes to open it back up. On the left hand side of the tub I built a bench to sit towels and drinks on and it doubles as the deck extension for that side. Filling it up First night we used it!
Dang Cert, nice job! Enjoy that thing (I know you will). Great idea to keep it lower.....easier to do a belly flop.
Subbed.. One of my many honey do lists.. Like your footings are they pressure treated? I assume so with that much work going in but pics color seems off.
I see you have a couple of inspectors helping out . Having a hot tub would just be so awesome and I love the purple light for night soaking.
That's awesome! I like that you sunk it down, much easier to get in and out... How do you have any time to cut firewood these days?
I wanted it to be easy to get into and out if. This way you sort of step in and Down into it just a bit. It's about 16" above the deck right now.
That is the plan...... In looking forward to sitting in it in the fall after freezing in a tree stand for hours
Nice work!!! I ran into a similar problem last summer. We tossed around the idea of getting one and then where to put it. Ended up putting on the porch which meant tearing up the deck boards and adding posts and such just like you did! If you can... run it in the winter you can’t beat it after a day of working in the woodpile!
It has been in for about 6 weeks now and my wife and I use it just about every day! Really helps loosen my back up a lot. I am happy I decided to puit that close to the back door for when it's cold and snowing and honestly it ended up looking like we designed the deck that way. It will look better once we get it all stained to match.
