Low of 49* this morning. Windows open. House down to 69*. Would like to see a couple of degrees lower in the house even though I am in my sweatshirt since hot humid weather is headed back this way in a couple of days.

I always reserve mine. I usually go through Costco, they usually get gooder prices. I like Avis and Enterprise.

Thanks, we don't belong to Costco, but maybe Sam's has something similar.

Just know that when the rental company says "or equivalent" that they really mean "or slightly comparable"

If he rents, for instance, a compact Ford focus. It will have " or equivalent" listed. That means you'll get a nissan versa, which is a subcompact, and the lowest priced car in the US. Think about it, for every 3 foci, or jettas, they can get 4 versa's. Those versa's are the cheapest POS out there, barely get out of their own way. All the rental car companies say the class of car is one bigger than reality. Here's a screenshot right now of rentals in Denver. Screenshot_2018-07-19-07-33-32.png
Since when is a Nissan Altima a full size car? It's a midsize now.

Yes reserve in advance. You can cancel most rentals even with no penalties right before renting. And don't take their insurance. Waive it and use yours. You should bring your insurance card just in case.

Also, since it's a rental. Floor it from every stop.

OTOH, every time I have reserved a rental, they have not had any of that size, so they have to upgrade for the same cost.

House was down to 64 degrees this morning. Currently have a sweatshirt on, and the hood up. Got to love this fall like morning break!

Oh, he's doomed to get a Versa. He's got "kick me" sign permanently taped to his back. Anything better than a Versa will be a major win.

Two years ago, Enterprise gave us what we asked for (a brand spanky new Explorer Limited), so it IS possible to get what you asked for.

I was going to say if you have USAA or a good friend they get a discount. You don't have to be a retiree, just a veteran or their immediate family to get it, with some restrictions. I have USAA, I have never served but my dad served a few years in the US Navy, because he had it I can get it and I can pass it down to my kids and their kids indefinitely. They have great deals and amazing customer service.

But did you pay for that? Those upgraded vehicles are pretty pricy to rent

Paid for and got what we asked for. had it for a week, and it wasn't what I would call inexpensive.
Son upgraded to an Expedition on the same trip and paid more, but I don't know how much.

Unless your literally buying the worst trucks of that age with 289,000 miles or something those prices are cheaper than you can get down here for the same stuff.

And still having a hard time comprehending the spark plugs? I mean I change them in pretty much every used vehicle I get. Today with platinum plugs they last 100k many say to do them prior than that, but not that many years ago they lasted 20 to 30K miles. And changing a set of worn out plugs could easily get you 10 to 15% better mpg. Back then an air filter would do the same , now a days the filter can be dirty and black and get about the same MPG as a clean one, just way less power.

VW already has a factory here. They make the Passat, Atlas and will be making two upcoming SUVs in the US. The chicken tax is also going to encourage other countries to manufacture here, increasing jobs in the US.

For many people this size truck is very handy and is heavy duty enough for them. The Honda Ridgeline has a payload capacity of 1500 lbs, you have something smaller/easier to park/drive, decent gas mileage, and Honda reliability. I’ve considered buying one several times. But, have been going with something heavier duty while I’m doing a lot of this work on my land.

Not sure if it's still true Midwinter , when I rented for business travel back in the day there was one particular credit card that had built in rental car insurnance. I think it was Visa opposed to Master Card or similar, and though my debit card said Visa, it offered zero protection.
