The take so far... no mystery why it went down. The two big ones on the top right are what I cut in half this morning. The wood fort in my front yard. I had this area emptied out this spring!
That's called being in the right place at the right time! A great hoard indeed! I hope you can get the third one too.
Still a great score though. Black Locust really does make its place well in the wood stacks. I think the only thing about it is the smoke smell that would be nice if it improved but works well either way if you hide it with other woods in the firebox.
The town hasn't dropped off the locust brush and limbs at the dump. I know because I've been haunting the place. I've picked up some other stuff, cinderblocks and discarded firewood splits, but no locust leftovers. And all the other locust trunks at the ice cream place are still standing. And so I wait...
The Parks Dept. dropped the limbs and brush at the dump. I got one load... But by the time I went back, either someone else snagged it, or the loader buried it. So, just a few sorry sticks. Such is the scrounger's lot.
Nice score. Persistence pays off! Gotta love feeling like a "crazed wood hoarder" or maybe that's just me when I do stuff like this.
I'm I'm glad there are other people who get me! I'm still stalking the rest of the locust at the ice cream stand. The one closest to the street definitely should come down. And if I were the owner, knowing that the downed ones had ants, I would be looking critically at the ones inside the playground fence. They are pretty tall, and there are dead branches up in the canopy.
Just stop in at night with a bow saw. Get some face camo so you blend in. You.can put it on the exposed parts of your legs that the capris dont cover too!
