I arrived late but still plenty of branches left from this huge white oak taken down.

Wes (the tree guy) delivered the bulk of the tree to someones house for a small fee if you lived near by. Sadly I did not see the add soon enough. Though I'm very happy with the wood I was able to grab. Wes is a heck of a nice guy too.

Nice score. two truck loads is a good day in my opinion. I never see white oak so I'm not too familiar with it but I didn't know it looked kinda similar to black locust.

Nice score!!! But are you sure that's Oak. Has a Locust look to me. Shoot an up close of the leaves if you can.

I stand corrected, by leaf I believe that to be Burr Oak. Definitely a White Oak variety. Nicely done!

I'm with you on this one for sure. We don't seem to have any of that here but there is plenty west of us.

Hmm. I am thinking swamp white oak. Quercus bicolor. The leaves have no real lobes to speak of. Anyway a great oak score!

Great score! It’s always a good day when you can fill up the truck bed with free wood. Down here it’s been a dry spell for me- no good CraigsList offers for a month! Just a mulberry tree that had split and fallen, but the owner wanted the entire thing cut up and hauled away, not willing to burn all the branches. I wasn’t going to make a special trip or two just to haul the branches/leaves away.

Is it awful of me to say I've often thought of these scenarios where people want this done, and just loading up all the worthwhile wood and saying "yeah I'll be back for the rest" and just well....not go back?

I've never done that but its crossed my mind so many times with these CL ads where people basically want a whole job done for free.

Looks like real nice wood, I'd go after it for sure. I've never seen Burr Oak out here, but I've heard of it from tree books.

    Nice get.
I've seen an oak tree with leaves like that around here. I think they are black oaks here.

Have you tried Facebook marketplace for free wood deals? In my area it’s much better than craigslist.
