When that happens with those whistle pigs, if you sit and wait, usually in about a half hour they will pop their heads out again.

I would not be against stacking wood on the 4th but not this year with the heat we had. However, sometime between now and the end of August (or maybe September, depending upon circumstances) I need to stack a bunch of wood and also do some splitting. There is a bunch of white oak stacked up in the woods but it can get wet there so I need to get that out sometime in July or August when things dry up a lot. It's almost dry enough now but some other jobs will come first.

I work on firewood year round and summer is when I get most of it done. Just have to stay well hydrated. Drink even if you don't feel thirsty. If you get behind on fluid intake best to call it a day because you won't get caught back up on a 90+ day.

Here is how I have been doing the wood stacking this week while in the 90*+ temps.
20180702_103657.jpg stack a little then jump in the pool then stack some more then jump in the pool

You’re absolutely right, and that’s when they meet their doom! :rootintootin:

I have upped my game today for the pasture warfare...picked up a Winchester air rifle that fires .177 pellets at 1200 feet per second. Game on, groundhogs!

Normal is a relative term. On the 4th I stacked perhaps a face cord or so of Black Locust that was left from the cord or so that I split last week during the excessive heat. I just don't like unstacked wood lying around and a day with few plans is perfect for wood work!

Here is a pic of the pile before processing. Shared it with brother and friend. 3-4 cords I'm guessing. IMG_3121.JPG

Its year round therapy for me. I love to work in the pouring rain i think im normal. I did arrange stacks of wood on the fourth, nothing crazy just about 10 minutes of stacking. It was 90 out then i jumped back into the 88 degree pool that was like a bathtub.

    That's my attitude as well.

In the case when I get a tree service to drop free logs at my house, on my lawn, then I'll make an exception. I did however wait until the heat went away.

They pop up and you pop them down. That reminds me I need to get going on my AR build, and also pull out that SS ruger 10/22 my dad bought me.

I use the mist setting on the garden hose. I'd rather do a cannon ball in the pool though, but we've only got a kiddy pool for the pups.

Oh yeah, this one lady over here has the same idea. Loves to work but since we’re out looking at houses we’re not out collecting or splitting wood. I think we’re done with such a phase until it cools down Fall wise. Glad your lady does good work too, those kinds of lady’s look at old bricks and make them walk back to a wall!!

The beauty of being ahead with your supply is that you can stack it when you want to. I prefer to spend the cool mornings moving wood into the shed at my leisure. Usually by September the shed is full and then I concentrate on splitting and cutting more to replenish what I moved to the shed over the summer

I know there are two definitions of normal, mine and my Wif's. Judging from some of the reply posts, there are at least several more. It definitely takes all kinds and we are all ,no doubt, the richer for it!

I really dislike firewood'n in the heat, but if something good enough presents itself, I'll have at it. But, that being said, I'll save all the splitting/stacking for cooler temps. I don't enjoy sweating my arse off when I don't have to.
