It's finally spring! Well temps are in the constant 30's and up now which means we only need one full load a day! I just put some Black Walnut, Beech and Ash in the stove mixed right up to the grills. We are gone 13 hours a day and when we come home at 6pm the house will be 65 - 68f man this is a good sign heck the snow finally melted away in the yard ( Mostly.) :firepit:
Pete, just put a load in myself. 36° outside and it is 64° in the house after a fire that was lit at 10pm last night. Supposed to get up to 62° today, so this small load will be the one and only during the day. Yeah, it's nice to see the temps moving in the right direction.
Well, thats good news for you guys that have been hammered this winter.... See there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel... Im still doing a fire here and there.
Yes we where. Sunday was so nice the wife and I split most of the afternoon in the sun. It's been so cold this winter we couldn't even go outside for more than 30 minutes at a time and that was pushing it. Feeling warm air again is great.
I'm so far ahead, I never had a concern. Without cutting anything this year, I will still have a 3+ year supply. But of course that won't happen. Not cut any wood for a year, I would have major withdrawl!
We have about 4 years worth right now too but winter is when I usually cut. This year it just didn't happen so I get to go spring saw crazy! Good thing I like to be out in spring...
After a single large load in the morning before i head off to work, I've been letting the fires go out for the past several days. Outside daytime temps in the mid 60's (feels HEAVENLY) keeps the house around 70° during the overnight with no fires.......One fire in the morning keeps the house around 73° all day long... While I AM excited for spring and summer, I'm going to miss cuddling up with the wife on the couch in front of the fireplace.......that is, without a doubt, everyone's favorite place in the house. BUT, that ALSO means that campfire season is right around the corner!!! We had a nice campfire at scout camp this past Saturday!! Then woke up the next morning, looked outside the cabin and saw this!!!
Scotty I love that fireplace bro. You have inspired me to attempt a new corner install maybe this year. We are gonna try and use field stone for it...
thanks, brother! Let me know when you go to do it......I'll help you out in any way I can. Stone masonry is a passion for me.....
Thanks brother! It was something I had NO CLUE how to do around 8 years ago......once I learned the proper techniques by reading about it and such, it was a piece of cake. And MAN does it ever make a cozy addition to ANY room......
Getting close to Spring here too. Snow has been gone for a while, but the teens at night are keeping everything frozen frozen.
