So far I see only 2 (two) out of 19 posts that are firmly against summer hoarding and only 1(one) who might be neutered!
And your wife.....so its 3... Let me add...whatever it takes to get it done I guess. I have 17 cords of wood on hand.....didn't have a stick on hand until the end of last august. Felled n bucked about 8 cords Sept. to Oct. Kept watching CL for free wood...found 4 awesome deals for true seasoned wood in Nov...hickory,locust,ash,etc. That was another 8-9 cords. Bought a couple cords for 50.00 a cord. Ill start to go on the prowl again sometime this Sept. to replenish what I feel I might burn this winter.....this will above n beyond my 3 year plan.
My wife knows the value of my wood and how it keeps her warm..... That said, we are good at teamwork.
Wood hoarding in July/August? Ya that's a 5am to 10am thing. The fire danger for the area where I cut usually gets very high by July 15th, so the show is over till about October 10th. My favorite time to cut is October and November.
Sounds like you have the wood thing handled. And by mid year! My hats off to you. I must confess that I much prefer doing the firewood in cooler spring and fall also but I have been much consumed with other projects and have neglected the wood shed
Well spoken especially the teamwork part! I will reduce the neutered category to zero! I am also blessed with a hard working wife also who works right alongside. She can't do the heaviest work but she Never Stops. She makes the energizer bunny look like a sloth. Then after she helps stack the wood she is there with her rake, bucket, shovel and wheel barrow to spruce the area up. She styles herself as the "cleaner shrimp" who takes care of everything after the heaviest work is done. And she looks good doing it!
I didn't do any splitting today, but I DID buck a huge silver maple trunk into tabletops for a buddy of mine this morning using the Stihl Contra and a 42" bar. I probably lost 4lbs in that heat for a mere half hour of work.
97 degrees today, and just walking up to the barn had sweat rolling off of me. I was armed with one of my 9mm pistols and was prepared to stalk and dispatch a groundhog with extreme prejudice. Unfortunately it saw me coming, even though I went the long way around and came in from above. He was gone down the burrow, so I figured I’d not waste the trip to the barn. I had 20 red oak rounds to unload off the trailer, and I got them off and dragged them over to the splitter. I got them split- stringy, stinky bastards, every one of them- and put them up in the stack. I finished up and went on back to the house to peel off my soaking wet jeans and shirt. You better believe that that beer tasted so so good.
Monday night I pulled the tarp off the heaphausen out back of the house and looked it over. Yesterday I had my loader out moving stuff around and dressing up a washout in the equipment yard so I pushed up the pile as it was kinda kattywampus from pulling out of it last winter. Usually about 2-3 years worth in the pile but it's down to 1. Likely going to use up what's in it and clean up the bark and what have you under it before I start another one if I don't move in the next year. Does that count for handling wood on the 4th?
Sounds like she had an ace in the hole with the NORMAL addition...lol... Work with it anytime you have free... tomorrow's health isn't guaranteed...
I looked at wood. Then went out to murder some cans with a new handgun. After that I looked at some more wood. I should get on it and finish cleaning up the mess I have around here.
I was in the shower, looking at my wood.....had the same exact thought...... (I can see the stacks from the window in our shower, Jack Straw and youse othah guys.....)
The Contra was 106cc, the Contra S (a much rarer version) had a bigger piston and cylinder, it was 138cc. Not sure on the other specs and ratings without looking......
Sweet. Thanks Scotty. I got some crazy looks from people when I told them that saw you let me try at the gtg, was over 100cc's
