I got one off of CL - since I'll only use a couple weeks a year (unless global warming really hits us hard), I didn't see a reason to get new. If I had gotten new, I would have most likely gone with dual hoses, but going used, you gets what is available (and in the price range I was willing to pay - no I am not paying $500 for a used unit).

Anyway, picked it up last night and had it installed in not time. Closed off the bedroom, bathroom and den and set it at 77*. Let it run for a couple hours where it brought the LR and kitchen temp down to 83* and a lot less humid. By then, it was 82* outside, so I shut off the unit, opened up all the doors and started up the window fans. This morning it was still 80* in the house, and humidity had shot up overnight so I went thru the same routine as I got ready for work. Was down to 79* and I set it to run another hour after I left. I should get home in time to turn it back on before the temp in the house really starts rising from the late afternoon sun.

    Oh, and pic

Funny, I just realized that the window fan is behind the A/C in the picture - the edge of the window block can be seen behind the unit on the right hand side. I relocated that to my bedroom (there is one in the other bedroom too plus a 3-part tower fan that I move around to the most advantageous spot).

Why not set the timer to turn on the unit an hour or so before you plan to be home?

Because I don't know how to set the timer yet - no manual (and I can't find onw online - grrr). I'm not even sure I actually set it to turn itself off after an hour - I'll find out when I get home. I may not need it tonight at all - I just don't know. I don't like A/C so am not going to be running it just because I have it.

Truck was dropped off this morning to look at the ac as its not cooling right. It works and then it doesnt, but mostly doesnt. Hoping its juts a recharge and not the compressor as with all the drives to my dad's being 1.5-2 hours each way its needed in the summer.......

Your definition of need, and mine probably differ quite a bit. Was in the car a little while ago, going to/from Chiropractor and didn't use the A/C. Sign said it was 92* then and I could see the humidity in the air - wasn't even tempted at stop lights.

Drove my Kea Soul to Lewiston this AM. AC on because of the high heat and humidity. Ozone was said to be unsafe. Had to redirect the blowing ice cold air away from the steering wheel! That little car was like a refrigerator. Good thing was that I could breath good in the cool air. From what I understand, this heat will last into the weekend. Don't know after that.

Just talked with the mechanic. Looks like a recharge is in order.....hopefully

I remember those days all too well. The older I get, the more i am using ac. I still dont use it a lot. open windows work for me 90% of the time, cept when its humid like now.

Only works when you aren't driving 30 mph roads and hitting stop lights all the time.
