Went out for my weekly dose of poison ivy, and decided to grab some more red oak while I was at it.

This one has been down for a while, but mostly still solid. A little punk on the outside and the top was rotten and bug infested, but the rest of it was up off the ground.

Hoofing the halves uphill was the most challenging part. Mid 90's temps with heat indexes in the 100's slowed me down quite a bit. Carry a couple rounds, drink a bottle of water, repeat. 20180630_151632.jpg

Got this much before taking a break for lunch and unloading, the rest after.

Notice the redneck parking stops? The truck is parked on a hill (hard to make out in the pictures) so I let the truck rest against two more halves.

Lost a round down the hill into the creek, which made for the "most peculiar" spot I've split a round.

This all went to the growing "to be split" pile before spending a few years down in my new "secret" red oak stash.

My hat is off to you. If at all possible, I will not be cutting wood in this kind of weather.

Nice oak score! And I'm also in the camp that decrees " no wood cutting if it's above 70 " . And wow lugging rounds out of the creek is true dedication.

Probably more on the side of insane/moron than dedicated lol. I probably should just let them go when I lose them down the hill (I've had several do this so far) but for some reason I take it as a challenge.

It's the workaholic in me that makes me go out in the heat to do it. Its that voice in my head saying "its not Sunday, better get something done".

Yep, got the same problem, but I had to give in yesterday, got waaaayyyy too hot. Hauled log loads today, but that was hydraulics & AC full bore in the truck.

Same here, to hot to work now if it can be avoided. Having cleared land this time of year when I was younger, I'd rather not. Splitting in a brook, I might give that a try this time of year though. :seasoned:I caught me some Red Oak!
