Same alert out up here, although current radar is clear. We had a Tornado warning up earlier this afternoon, but that has since ended.

True. We are within the lake effect area, only 3 miles from the lake at our house.

The flowers are a little later than usual, as are a lot of weather patterns. I'm not objecting to the rain. It's needed.

Got a new road looking thing, not sure what's on the go yet. The building our gas station is moving into is seeing some progress, among other things. Interesting sunset light tonight....

Too much work, or not enough supply? What's the alternative?

Grandfather claims he's starting to find it going downstairs to tend the furnace so many times a day. Myself I think he's seizing up due to not keeping himself active when he could have, but that's another conversation. Grandmother unfortunately isn't in perfect health either, and me and dad are hardly home in winter. He's talked about getting a heat pump, but who knows if he'll actually go through with it, or when, if so...

A heat pump sounds like a good solution, with wood for a backup when it gets really cold. Does the gulf stream keep you from subzero temps in the winter?

For the most part we don't drop that low below 0* Celsius, often for want of 5-6 degrees or less we could have rain instead of snow. I don't know if I've ever felt 0* Fahrenheit, some folks from the Midwest assume we have winters as gad or worse out here but that's not the case. I know winters seem to be getting milder, and the weather patterns wavkuer every year.

Furnace does/did burn oil as well, but hasn't for a few years and I don't know if it safely could now. My great uncle next door, who has cut our wood for a few years as well, also has a wood/oil furnace, but his oil tank was refused for delivery so he takes a few jerry cans to the gas station up on the highway that sells furnace oil and fills them up. I like his style haha

Very little is done exactly by the book in the smaller communities haha. Harder to get away with much of anything in town though......

When me and dad get our house fixed up, I'd like to At least have a little wood stove even if not for full time use. That'll be a while down the road yet though. Our buddy has a heat pump but as far as I know he still has the old style Woodstove right in the living room too

Always have a backup heating system. We've got 3, natural gas/forced hot water, wood stove in the basement, and a mini split we bought for air conditioning, but also can heat.

Unfortunately that's not always possible, but I agree. There are a couple electric heaters here as well. I don't like electric heat much, but it is better than nothing. The place dad went in on with his girlfriend is oil, and let's hope it stays reliable cause there's no money for a backup, at this point anyway. The place she moved out of was all electric, and was a city housing rental so definitely not much jurisdiction to change that. I'm glad mom's place is oil, it's better than electric. Also a rental, so what's there is kinda what you're stuck with. Might get in trouble for putting in a wood stove  . Kinda hard to have wood heat in town.

That reminds me, a buddy of ours from town has a bunch of cops in his family. His nephew showed up to investigate a funny smell in some place. Turned out to be a rent-by-the-room joint, occupied and owned by the types you'd expect. One guy says, "oh I got a woodstove." Upon further investigation by the fire dept, it was a rather jerry-rigged affair rigged up with dryer vent pipes and whatnot, and would have blown maybe 2 days or so later if they hadn't caught it. Turns out the guy, I hate to say, was from a spot not too long of a drive from me (let's hope the whole population ain't like him....I don't think so) and was unemployed. So our buddy's cop nephew ask him why he's in there living on welfare, why not go back home?

"Oh, no, I can't go back home, I got my cousin pregnant........."

    :loco:  takes all kinds......
