Not to mention that most new trucks are turds in any off road situation worse than a dry pasture field. Approach and departure angles are like cars. Added weight from safety nannies, and air conditioned seats, etc do not help offroad. Long wheelbases to accommodate crew and super crew cabs combined with low entry point has their belly scraping when going over anything bigger than a speed bump it seems. On road? Again, no comparison. The new trucks are as comforting as your favorite easy chair when tooling down the interstate while watching a movie. The trucks I like are not meant for long range highway travels. I didn't buy a pickup based upon it's interstate performance. Quite the opposite, rather. I don't expect to get great mileage and a nice ride in a pickup...that's what Prius and VW diesels are for. I've driven a new Denali crew w/duramax. I also have observed the same truck getting stuck on wet grass with 0 grade in 2wd. Unacceptable. I'll keep my old rough riding, mildly equipped Toyota, thanks. With all the fancy new options, creature comforts and trim levels, we are forgetting that a car or truck is merely a means of conveyance....to get you from here to there.
Not now, unless you pay MSRP. Used trucks that are a couple years old at most seem to fetch the same price as a good deal on a brand new one. A co-worker just bought a 2016 S crew 3.5 4x4 for 30k, with I think around 40k on it. There were several 2018's I drove that were just over 30k with the discounts taken off. That wasn't even haggling.
Well then, I won't resort to name calling, but yes, more gears does mean a certain amount of shifting. Hunting for gears is a totally different thing, and that's what I was saying that the 10 spd, or in effect any transmission does that has more gears than it's predecessor, does. Now I can recall a ton of times when i was towing with an underpowered truck with a 4 speed auto that would hunt up then down and back, and forth trying to find a gear. That's hunting.
Spirit of Two Socks, if you have 20 year old trucks down there that are not rusted out you could make $$ bringing them up here!! Friend I hay with 8cyl 2006?? Tundra 74k miles. Put it on lift for safety inspection frame broke.. Calcium chloride eats metal fast!!
Yes used truck prices here are crazy!! 2008 ram 1500 200k miles lifters noisy 16k 2016 chevy 1500 40k miles loaded 45,000..
Same here. I won't go in the woods with it, but I will go through the field that's either a dirt or gravel road. I've got a 4wheeler for the ruff stuff.
Nope, we're certain of that. It was a Canadian import. RTX, which it's just Canadian for xlt chrome package here. That truck was on their lot 2 days. They knew it'd sell quickly at that price. They probably only made a grand on it.
That's possible...not likely, but possible. If it was a new one I'd say yeah, but used, that's where the money is made...and $1k on a $30k truck is not likely. Heck my good buddy will buy me whatever I want at auction and even he still charges me $500 to do it...$1k profit off a dealers lot when it had only been there 2 days, nah...I bet the guy that traded it in got $25k at the most for it.
Buddy just got offered 32,000 cash for 2014 denali with 60k on odometer.. I have not seen new truck here for less than 36k.
Who knows? All I know is the guy that traded in that 16, probably got screwed. If he did sell it for 25k, he could've sold it on his own for 30k easy. Unless there's something to the Canuck truck dealio. I mentioned the xtr from Canada to my dealer, and his comment was that the Canadian import vehicles were more of an issue as far as factory warranty until recently. Maybe they scared him into selling??
Its amazing the trade in price people take just because they don't wanna fool with selling outright. Guy at work has one of those XTR trucks...2011 or '12 IIRC...150 Screw, 8', 5.4 I think
It can't be a supercrew if it has the 8' bed. Those years the screw was only a 5.5' bed. But yes, used trade in it's where dealers bend people over. Most know what a new car/ truck goes for. So that's why you can't tell a dealer about the trade in until you get the right price on the new vehicle first.
Full 4 door, full size bench seat in the back, 8' bed...its a looooong truck...definitely not a 5.5'. Its longer than my Superduty extended cab 8' bed... Edit: my bad, I just text him...its a 6.5' bed
Canadian border VT I wish I could find 20-year old trucks down here that are not rusted. We don't get as bad as winters as you do up in Vermont, but we still get a fair amount of snow and ice. PennDOT puts a lot of brine solution down before expected storms, then salt or whatever during and after. Anyway, rusty vehicles are an issue here also. I do have a friend in Virginia Beach however who used to buy used trucks down there and sell them near is hometown north of Buffalo, NY. He made big bucs doing this. He would drive the truck ( with little to no rust) from Virginia Beach to his hometown near Lake Ontario, sell it quickly, buy a plane ticket to Norfolk, and still make a decent profit. I got lucky with my truck. It's 30 years old, has the classic 5.7L V8 350 engine, 4 x 4, regular cab with an 8-foot bed. The guy I bought it from wanted to sell it quickly as he was moving to Colorado and needed the money. I've had it going on 7 years now. It's got a little over 240,000 miles on it. I average about 3500 miles a year on it. It's strictly a work truck that I hope to have for a long time. I'm very fortunate too that my mechanic is a long-time friend. He takes care of all my vehicles. He never takes advantage and I know whatever work he does is done correctly. He's literally worth his weight in gold. As other people have stated, it is difficult to find a good used truck at a decent price! Wow, that's quite a story about your friend's Tundra. What did he/she do? I bet the mechanic was surprised when the frame broke while it was up on the lift.
Called Toyota's not covered and frames where at one point. And got 2500 in trade got 2015 to yo 4 Dr..
Not sure what that actually means, but I have entertained both the dealership and bystander from time to time hunting for 1st in the 99' F250. 1 and 3 on a stick higher than I sit in the seat were like wascally wabbits. Just don't tell WWW that I admitted how many times I stalled it trying to get going in 3rd
