Thank you. Yup, the famous ROTTIE lean. I think it is their way of showing respect to their pack leader. Bear will only do it with me and not my wife. Out of all the dogs I have had in my life, this guy is no doubt the most loyal and smartest. It amazes me as to how they can communicate with their eyes.

And who couldn't love a kitten! We also have two himalayan kittens. Short legs, lots of fur a a short snout. They run around playing tag. Then they sleep. The labs just sit and watch all the antics. I wasn't much for cats, but the cat that adopted us, (she is the one who passed yesterday) had a way of finding rooms in our hearts.

Yes they give you that look.. What's funny, once the wife and I were in bed,, we would hear our Rudy scratching at the rug at the foot of our bed and then stomping the rug with his front legs like he was knocking down the grass to bed down for the evening.... Now if we didn't watch him he was fine.. If we started laughing at him he would jump up on our bed and try to get under our covers at us, as we hid our heads, just for laughing at him... He was a riot! What a personality!

Dang, he looks exactly like my cat Slick, who by the way, spent yesterday afternoon supervising my moving a ton and a half of pellets from the garage to the basement. I have a 2nd cat that appears to be Bengal/Siamese mix. She is only 8-9 lbs, has the attitude of a Bengal, is much smaller than Slick (13-14 lbs of muscle) but holds her own with him when they play hard (that would be the Bengal in her). At first I was concerned that she was getting hurt, but once I realized that she would always go running back in and chase him, I no longer am concerned. Heck sometimes I think he needs to put her in her place when she is being bitchy for no reason.

They both are outdoor cats all summer and you cannot keep them in. I too live in the woods with all the same predators. Only thing I can do is try to make sure that they are in at least by dark. Usually successful on that but not always. As much a fear are vehicles. I own 5 acres of woods behind the house and a river across the street. Sure enough Slick has to cross the road on a regular basis. I cringe every time but cannot stop him.

Save$, its hard losing a furry 4 legged friend, but it is so good having them with us. I lost 3 in a 5 year span...the 3rd was only last fall...all of old age ailments.

Sorry for you loss of you kitty Save$ and your JRT Scotty. Having JRTs myself and having lost them in the past, that grief can be crushing.

Vaccines. Where to begin. Jane Dodds has millions of pages of research about them but it just isn't common knowledge how dangerous they can be. There is no way to know Save$ if it was the vaccines so don't let that weigh on your soul. Unfortunately, unless you have a "radical thinking" vet, vaccines can be scarey. A sick animal, should never be vaccinated. Granted, rabies is required in most states, but if your pet is diabetic, epileptic, compromised immune system, etc, you can get a rabies exemption. My little guy is just about 20# and healthy so he had gotten his 3 yr rabies before we adopted him, he's set for life, titers only. I do vaccinate for lymes and flu/hepatitis only because it's epidemic where we live but they get the vaccines one at a time and 3 weeks apart. My vet ONLY uses single dose vaccines and pro-rates them for weight. My aunt raises and shows Rhodesian Ridgeback and one of her dogs came down with Mercury poisoning from getting the last vaccine in a multi-dose vial, highly concentrated with mercury. Jane helped cure her dog and has been a friend to our family for many, many years. If you find a holistic vet, there are great homeopathic treatments that can be given before/after as Charlie stated that have proven results to counteract the vaccines.

Just like your family doctor, if you don't like your vet, find another but read up on vaccines to make decisions that make sense for your pets and your situation.

I was reading a report posted on the CDC site recently about mercury in human vaccine. Why is there so much mercury in the multi-dose vials?
Also speaking of harsh dosages, I had to switch my cat (big as he is) from Advantage to Frontline Plus. We are both allergic to flea bites so we have to use it. He does not tolerate Advantage very well though, and was wiped out for a day after I gave it to him. Advantage also comes in impossibly small tubes and it is hard to see or apply it. Frontline comes in large plastic dispensers and you can see it and tell if you got it all out or not. Also after a spot treatment of Frontline, he goes about his daily routine like nothing happened.

I'm not sure about why there is even mercury in vaccines for people or pets but my vets researches the bejesus out of the manufacturers to only get ones she trusts and never uses multi-dose vaccines. i love my vet ;)

Anyway, as far as fleas, there are natural herbal topical treatments for dogs instead of the main stream manufacturers but not sure about cats. I know the dog ones are either garlic or pine oil based, I've never had a cat but sure there are similar things out there if you have a sensitive pet. Who knows what is in that stuff!

I read that there is a brand of Rabies vaccine that is mercury free... I was shocked that our now old vet refused to give my 14 year old diabetic JR a rabies waiver... It was like they were going against their practice beliefs... but yet do no harm is what they are suppose to be about.. Basically my vet gave us 3 month script for needle purchases, it was good for 3 renewals... because we refused to allow Lily to get a rabies shot she gave us one script for enough needles for 50 days and basically said rabies shot or no more needles... I'm thinking I should have went to the news media, but most people are so uneducated about the effects of vaccines that I would have been maybe wasting my time... Then they had the nerve to say we are sorry to be losing you as a customer,, if there was anything that we need to feel free to contact them... out of their minds they are! And we had been using the one vet for over 20 years and she pulled this... Lily also had a breats cancer removed earlier this year... They tested the margins and all was good... What the vet didn't do is take the time to to make sure the antibiotics the b=gave my dog didn't effect her insulin... My wife put two and two together and figure out our dog Lily was crashing because of the meds... They never bothered to look that up... We educated them and sure enough, they called back and said it was the medicine... Shame on them again.. If one of us were not here, our Lily would have went into insulin shock and died... The vet would have denied everything... Now the good man from above seeing how we love our animals has made sure we found a holistic vet who also does acupuncture and chiropractic care as well. Lily had the former for a sluggish liver.. and is now a new dog.. Very out going again, was really cool to see the change and with just one acupuncture session... So I guess read and educate yourself if you love your animals.. Your are their protectors of proper and safe health care...

Frontline is very hard on their livers...Your not suppose to get any on your skin... I read it's a known carcinogen to humans.. I use essential oils like lemongrass, etc and also a herbal powder as well... I also check my pets daily for ticks and fleas.. something I committed to do being an animal owner verses throwing harsh blanket applications of chemicals into the blood stream... Remember, a healthy immune system is what prevents disease in the first place... Weaken it with harsh chemicals,, and the immune system will start to fail allowing the animal to become ill.. My one dog is 16, the other 14 and they have never had heart worm pills, chemical flea products, nothing... just all natural remedies... If the mosquito's are bad I put lemon grass oil or eucalyptus oil on them or simply just bring them in so they aren't subject to all the biting, simple common sense..

I have tried a lot of other treatments, but spot treating is the only effective way to control fleas here. Its that, or no cat. I also spray the house with several flea killer pesticide sprays. I would have to do that with or without the cat. I bring home more fleas than he does. I have to spray myself with DEET before I go into town, or I get bitten there and I drag them home. I have been allergic to flea bites all my life. In California it was barely controllable. Here it is more seasonal, and I only spot treat the orange monster about every 6 weeks, usually when I start to get bites. I asked the vet if they had spot treatments for humans. He laughed, but I was serious.

My cat had allergies, to what I don 't know. She had a few steroid injections to get her scabs in control. She hadn't needed shots for 6 months. The vet examined her and said she was healthy. One month later, she is gone. I miss her sitting on the arm of my recliner every time was in the chair. She passes away in that chair. Only my lab was smart enough to know what was going on. She kept nudging the cat and licking her. She got me out of bed with her barking.
Now she is working on a relationship with the kittens. Crazy dog!

Could have been food allergies...Our cat gets a lot of organic chicken livers and a small amount of organic kibble from the health food store... Animals are not meant to live on kibble.. Be like us living on cereal our whole life... Even our dogs get a raw food and some cooked homemade diet... done it for 20 years... plus proper supplements , some from Standard Process company.. they've been around since 1929.. Good stuff. No kibble for the dogs.. They get raw marrow bones for their teeth as well as added calcium..

I do grow and eat a lot of garlic. I am still a flea magnet though. In Eugene, was known as The Garlic Man. I grew over 75 types of garlic and sold it at the wine and garlic festivals in Southern Oregon, and I was in the local papers there several times. No more growing garlic on that scale though, its a lot of work. Now I only grow Italian Easy Peel, Spanish Roja, Premium Northern White, Chesnok Red and Inchellium Red on a small scale. They are the best ones here.
