As we get older, we think things differently...
A few years ago, I got one of those $100, 5,000 window A/C units for my garage..
When I know I have to do something on a hot humid day, or want to, the night before I turn it on..
Only a few times a season... but..
It gets so nice out there, sometimes I spend a lot of time just farting around, cleaning, or re arranging,
Got a tv out there, so I'm good to go!!
I spent years out there, working on race cars, bikes, or other projects, in the heat,
    sweating my ___ off...
    no more.

We got one of those roll around, place hose unit in window units a 12000 BTU one I can manage it, except for getting the stuff that gets piled on it when stored away off in the early summer. That is what the boss is for.

As I lose weight I’m getting a little better with heat, but still need the ac. Less fat, less insulation to retain the heat.

Well there are quite a few southern license plates in the yards around the lake.

The boss has a few relatives that do or did that for more than a couple of years. They live the next town over during the summer. It is a good gig provided you don't need medical services during the time you are in Florida.

Time to turn the back porch lights on so the boss can find the door. She is at the last party of the quilt clubs until the fall season.

Sweat all day and I can't sleep when its humid. AC is in the window and I'm not afraid to use it. I want to be cool after being hot all day just like I enjoy being warm after freezing all day.

Still have one brother down there as he never left after we moved there as a family in 69. He just bought a lake house in Norther FLA. which I intend to visit when its cold up here . Could not handle the year long heat myself but lived there for quite a while.
Thought my parents and my wife's parents were crazy for heading down there for half the year but come to find out I am the crazy one as I do plan on spending at least a few months down there when its cold , but that means time away from my favorite pastime sitting in front of the Harman while sipping some fine Bourbon and warming my old achy bones. May have to re-evaluate that plan .
    Hope all are well.

As was mentioned by Dan, the older I get the more I break down and use ac. Luckily up here, it isnt really needed all that much but the unit did go in the window last night downstairs and bedroom unit ready to go in when needed. This weekend will prolly be needed.

Both my ac are 8K Maytag and 15-17 years old. I keep saying I should replace. Are newer units better, quieter, more efficient or are they like refrigerators and not as good?

In my opinion they are exactly like todays refrigerators. Quieter, more efficient, not as well built.

    aka,
A bit cheaper to buy and run, but offset by need to repkace every 5 years (or less) due to fai!ure.

(Save $50in electric, spend 200 for new unit)
