This was the suburban I rented last year and was hoping I could get the same results with the Silverado since it has the same engine. That was with 6 people and luggage. I took a picture because I found it amazing. I loved the drive I’m just not sure if I could get the same results with the Silverado.

Good idea...I worked at a Ford store for a bit in the past and they really wanted us to push the lease plan...I knew it wasn't right for most people and so I didn't push it...didn't take too long for me to decide to move on from that position...but it "only" took me 5 years to figure out that sales was not for me :picard:

That's all relative. New trucks get better MPG than my Audi that I daily when I'm not on my motorcycle.

Just my coin in the pot for the Silverado 1500. But I really have nothing to compare it to as it's my 1st truck I've owned. All I can say is am extremely happy with it so far, and love having the benefits of a truck. Should have done this 10ys ago, not sure what took me so long, O yeah that thing called money stopped me.

I've yet to hear a truck owner that didn't moan and groan about the gas/diesel bill. Mine eats about $85/week in diesel, and that's not even that bad. My Dad's '16 Denali, same truck as mine basically but gas gets about 10 MPG, both 2500 hd. I get nearly double that. Then again he's got bigger tires/more aggressive tread which isn't helping the MPG at all.

Id get a commuter car, and a beater truck... however if your stuck on a truck, no way Id not shop a yota.. Tundras have treated me great, my dad great... and i run a fleet of trucks at work, the tacomas havent cost us anything in repairs, the big 3 have. If your a short term owner, check out yotas residual value compared to others as well..

Again, Id get a commuter car and a beater truck however in your position.

As soon as I get my new truck you'll be able to hear that someone is happy with the mpg/ fuel bill, as it will be less than I currently have. Now if I were to get the 2.7 Ecoboost, then I'd be raving about the great fuel economy.

As I said, it's all relative. If you were driving a car that got 35 mpg, then go to a truck that gets 17 mpg, then you'd probably complain about the mpg. It just is all about what you do with your truck that you can't with the car.

We love our Yota's we've owned, all 4runners. My issues with the tundra are the power train, especially the lack of MPG on the 5.7 due to old transmission tech, and also how the rear seat folds up in the crew cab. Those issues apparently will be addressed when they redo the truck for 2019.

Thats not old transmission technology... thats called gearing and not having a computer shut down 4cyl which is something thats probably going to break in the long term...

Computers are cool, until they crap out and cost you $5k to fix lol...

Dont believe the mpg hype the big 3 try and sell you. Muscle takes fuel. You ever meet a body builder that eats like a 3yr old?

Agreed. This is why I'm happy when my Duramax gets over 20 mpg highway.

I have a 04 ram 2500 with the 24 valve cummings. I had it chipped, and deleted by a rancher friend. 22 mph hiway. I love the power, and fuel efficiency, but the truck is the junkie. Front end needs rebuilt every six months. Plastics on that things seemingly explode at -20 and below. Looking back, I would be better off staying with an older truck. The difference between fuel and parts would have been more than worth it. It is hard when you are looking for a truly tough modern work truck. ( At least for me).

How many miles are on it? My last 07 GMC Sierra (duramax) had 200k miles on it before we sold it for 13k. The body had some work done to it, mostly around the bed/rear wheel wells and tailgate. Mechanically, aside from the check engine light coming on all the time for emissions crap, that truck was always pretty solid. As far as I know the kid who bought it a couple years ago is still loving it.

Yep, love the blue oval, but just like anything else, you get good and bad, it doesn't matter the brand.

I have an '01 F-150, 4.6 liter, have gotten 19mpg with it. Gets about 15 when pulling trailer. It is a Super Crew, 5 1/2 ft bed. You can easily stack a face cord of wood on it. It came with towing package and it has towed plenty. Just pulled 7200# net weight of hickory and oak logs in the dump trailer.

Only 178,000. Out of 5 or so friends, I'm the only person to keep my dodge. My truck is a work truck, no kiddie rims ect. Pretty rough bed, hauls concrete to firewood. I do wish I would have bought the duramax, but I was scared a little. The new duramax, and dodges plug up just as bad though. They just can't take slipping through our woods, and mountains.

Yes. The ratio of lemons in all brands is getting worse. Best truck I ever owned was my 96 150 with the 351. I got 280,000 on that baby, while absolutely using it hard. Half ton just wasn't enough to haul around big trailers. My neighbor bought a new Ford last year, but the dash computer magic went out. Three months with a loaner, and ford bought the thing back.

A 6 spd auto is old tech. Fords don't have cylinder deactivation. They use direct FI and 10 speed transmissions along with alloys and other lower weight steel to reduce weight, and gain mpg.

    Everything is computer controlled now.
