Looking to get a puckup for carrying wood. Looking at the Chevy Silverado, Ram and F 150. I would be using it to go to work 65 miles round trip so MPG is important. Wanted to pick your brain. Leaning towards the Silverado, I rented a suburban last year and loved how it drove wondering if the pickup would have similar drive since they have the same engine.
Oh boy are you ever gonna get some help on this one! My 2 cents...there is only one on the list that is running 40 years straight "best seller" gotta be doing something right
Well, the 1500 Silverado would be a stiffer ride (than the suburban) due to less weight, but should give better gas mileage when empty. We used to have a GMC 1500 Sierra and loved it. It had a fiberglass cap on the back which gave it a nice ride quality as well. Can't (won't) comment on your other choices. I'm highly biased.
You got some reading to catch up on Getting a new truck, compare RAM EcoDiesel vs F150 Platnum?? Your welcome
No truck is gonna get great mileage...they're pretty much all 18-22 or so, with the exception of the Ram Ecodiesel I'd say...maybe the new Chevy/Ford half ton diesels will be there too (high 20s) Frankly I think they're all very comparable, I would just pick the one you like the looks of the most. I will say, in my area anyway there's a lot of 2017 ecodiesels still on lots...and 18s are plentiful and 19s showing up. They're discounting em deeply. A dealer near me gave me an OTD price of 38,859 for a truck with a 53,315 msrp. Pretty decent if you ask me. The issue I have with half tons is its kinda hard to find a full 4 door truck with a full 6"7 bed...they've got tiny 5' beds. I think to get good advice you need to tell us more...looking to buy new or used? You need a back seat? Full 4 door or ext cab?
I agree, and hopefully will be able to get one soon myself. I have a 65 mile round trip commute myself. The 2.7 ecoboost is the mpg King, but I'll get the 5.0 as I'm a V8 guy and it still gets better MPG than my Audi wagon.
The Ford diesel gets better MPG than the Ram. The Ford's offer a 6.5' bed on the crew cab. I don't think anyone else does.
Glad you’re not going for older used (=beater) driving that distance. I have an ‘04 Silverado W/T (4x4, 4.8L V8, single cab, 6’ 6” bed)........abominable mpg..... 14 on a good day downhill with a tailwind. You might consider pulling a trailer too, to maximize your wood gathering from such a remote site. Hope you find something soon Wolves1
They are more common than you'd think, at least around here. I pay attention to the issue because a 6.5' bed f150 won't fit in my garage. That's precisely why all the manufacturers made the 5.5' bed in crew cabs, as the standard garage size can't fit the 6.5 bed. I like the new 2019 ram, I just can't can't bring myself to do it as we've had enough Jeep/chryslers in my family to remind me of the electrical issues.
I’ve had both Silverado and F150 and I’m partial to the Ford. 5.0 liter is stout and better on fuel imo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a 14 extended cab F150 with 5.0 too, I do love that engine! Torquey and has a good growl to it.
I know you said new...but I'd buy a beater and use it like a truck and keep whatever you got for a commuter or get a small economical sedan for the commute.
I just picked up a ‘15 Supecrew Cab Sport Ford with the 3.5L... so far averaging about 18-19 mpg around town.... but on the trip up to Michigan this spring with my truck fully loaded with ATV in the back and gear... and a tail wind I had 23 mpg till I hit a head wind.... then it went back down to about 19mpg... love the extra room of the Supercrew.... the short bed isn’t that bad since I’ve got a trailer to haul any thing else...
Dad had 2 F150 Platinums with the twin turbo v6 and got 14-15 mpg around home. Never got over 18 hwy. Must've been geared lower. I figured the claimed 22mpg hwy was bogus
