Id give him a few options...all of which would be very expensive.

Tear out and replant with full grown by a pro.

Tear out and build fence by a pro

Pay a cash fee to make you forget about it.

    See you in court

Douchenozzles like that need to be taught the hard way. If he's laughing at the po po, and knew you'd say no if he asked, he obviously thinks he's above you and the law.

You're a better man than me. I would have had him arrested for the destruction.

I would call cousin Paulie and he would send Vincent and PJ over to have a "talk" with him, the bushes would be replaced and all would be well

^^^ That’s the best option in my opinion. Even if you win in court you still have this jackoff for a neighbor and that’s still the main problem.

Find a nice place in the woods - there’s no better privacy hedge than a few acres of forest. If you can’t see your neighbors it’s basically like not having any, and that’s the best kind.

My next thought here is lot's of pics and do you have "before and after"? Then go file a civil complaint. I hope you took pics right after he cut them and make sure you have a "plot plan" survey to prove they are in your yard.

I'd use that pic in court to show trespass and destruction of private property, force restitution. Hit his @zz in the wallet.

    Then sell the property.

It boils down to the fact that some people think their opinion is the only one that matters, and have no respect for others rights.

A typical product of the 'ME' society we live in these days.:headbang:

It is easy to talk about kicking a$$. Creating an arrest record for yourself isn't something to be taken lightly. BUT, with the provided picture, I do support the legal route. Get yourself a lawyer, discuss it with him and get the best advice. I would ask about the statue of limitations on taking action. Might be best to let him think you forgot about it and then right before you move or sell, hit him with the cost of the hedge. Surely it negatively affected the price of your home, in a perfect world you could keep him busy in court, sell the property and win the suit and collect the money as you move out of the neighborhood. Emotionally, this could bother you to a point of being sick or causing yourself health problems and this guy is not worth that. Find out if building a new fence on the property line the cost has to be shared by the two owners. If so, do not put up the fence yourself, find a fence company, get the cost of tearing out the shrubs, cleaning up the area and installing a new fence. Get the estimate, go to a lawyer and see if since this is needed because of his actions that he has to pay for everything. Quite possible, either way, don't make work for yourself, he has created this and needs to make it right.

In all seriousness the guy knows anything you do to retaliate will land YOU with a criminal record and he wins. The best thing to do is get an atty. and file everything you can against him. This will cause him the most pain as he will have to spend money and if he does not respond, which it seems he won't, you win then you start garnishing everything he has and add liens to his house, car what ever you can find he owns.
I had to do this several years ago, it worked, get his attention. yes it cost me money but it was worth every dollar and I did get what I was owed.
