about to be dropped off from next door neighbors place. No idea how many or how big. I just talked to the tree guy (boss) and he had no problem bringing the logs over (less than 1,000' to my house). I know it's just Poplar, but it'll help for SS. Now he doesn't have to haul 'em back to Mio (Dennis and some others will know where that is from here), which is about 40-45 minutes south of here. Almost sounded like a power washer from inside the shop, but when I stepped outside, I heard a chainsaw.......... Pics to follow...........
I like poplar, what's not to like, splits easy, dries fast, burns well.. Not a lot of BTU but great for cool damp weather Any wood delivered is good wood
They just left with a promise to bring more when they're in the area.......Oak, Poplar, Maple, whatever. I told him I'd take it. This'll save me from having to get out in the woods at Sis-in-law's place. Go out to the drive and start cuttin'. They drink Busch Lite.
Nice. Poplar burns great in a stove. Wouldn't want to burn it I a fireplace though. Might have some holes in the floor. It will pop out some coals.
I’ve gotten to really like Poplar, and I bet mike bayerl is getting tired of me calling him into threads to speak on its behalf....but hey! He said he loves it!!! BTW papadave, you kinda $uck for getting FREE wood delivered right to your splitting area....
Works best with a good air control stove.. Otherwise in a fireplace you are "go fer" more wood.. Dry, it burns quick. Got a bad rap because it dries so fast!! IMO makes it good for people who need dry wood fast..
Hey guys, what papadave got is not the same stuff you have. A world of difference between Daves popple (aspen) and yellow poplar! And if you consult about yellow or tulip poplar, the people in the know will come right out and say that yellow poplar is not really a poplar. Why it was named as such, I have no idea.
Again Eric VW that stuff that Mike Bayer has is not the same wood that papadave has. So, which poplar is it that you like? btw, I know you've seen our poplar when you've been here so you can see the two are nothing alike.
I like poplar better than other similar shoulder season woods like box elder or silver maple. Not sure why....I just do.
You're right Dennis, we call ours Tulip Poplar because of it's large yellow flower. This popple tree y'all have is strange indeed....
