The two ecoboosts (I haven't driven the raptor with the 3.5 HO) sound ok stock. They've got a lot of silencers in the intake, and the exhaust is made quiet as well. They both go well though. Now the 5.0 in the truck doesn't sound like the 5.0 in the mustang, unfortunately. I'm sure there's intake silencers, and the muffler is quieter. Now there's no "active exhaust" available from the factory on the 5.0 in the F-150, which is unfortunate. I'd buy that option. There's other ways to make them sound a bit better though.

My buddy's 2015 F-150 3.5 ecoboost has good turbo sounds and the dual aftermarket exhaust makes it sound good. It's got a low rumble and the turbo howl. I think it's a magnaflow cat back.

Here's the Roush active exhaust kit for the F-150. Not cheap though..ROUSH F-150 Active Exhaust Kit (15-18)

You can remove the silencer on the intake of the 11-14 5.0. It makes them sound really good. It is actually quite loud. The silencer can't be removed on the newer trucks without replacing the air intake.

Don't tell that to the 3.5 ecoboost. ;)

The 2017+ 3.5 ecoboost will beat a 5.0 pretty much everywhere. I'm comparing the 10 spd auto of each, both with the dual injection. The 5.0 has 20 more hp, but the ecoboost has 70 more tq. :bug:

I agree, my only concern would be maintenance costs. I looked 5.0 and the twin turbo diesel. I tend to drive them til they die or don't pass safety inspection.

Horkn would be interested in your thoughts..

I was up in the air until I drove them, and after I was set that I'll drive the truck until 200+ k . When I'm ready, which should be soon, I'll get the 5.0.

My dad just bought an eco boost F-150. It was slightly used, so I think maybe a 16?

Plenty of power for what he needs, and it got 24 or 26mpg coming up from FL a few weeks ago.

I just dont think I could bring myself to do it with the new eco engines.

I dont drive my personal vehicle a lot, I think I'm gonna end up with an OBS ford crew cab with a 7.3 from the west coast in the next year or two.

Drive one and you'll see that you could. Since your dad just bought one, a test drive should be easy. Do you know if it's a 2.7 or 3.5? Mpg like that tells me it's the 2.7. If so that's 325hp and 375 tq with a 6 spd auto. The 2.7 ecoboost is the #1 selling engine in the F-150. There's a great reason it is. It puts old v8's to shame, even ones up to 6 liters.

I could get a Roush F-150 with the Roush exhaust and the charger, with a level lift for a decent price. I've thought about it, and there's a Roush dealer 20 minutes from me, but I might as that fun stuff later, well, we'll see.

    It's a 2.7

My concern is long term reliability, and the potential for towing as needed.

    It's a Ford...reliability is excellent, so it won't need to be towed either... ;) :D

My good friend sold his powerstroke the trucks and switched to V10s on everything but his medium duties. Cheaper purchase price & maintenance costs. Fuel is a wash in mpg vs fuel cost.

But most importantly, the trucks are on the road earning every day, and not sitting at the dealership waiting for engine repairs.

Yeah that's been the general trend for a few years now, especially the fleet guys. The diesels just won't pay for themselves anymore...and like you said...reliability. Dad has a F450 with...I dunno, haven't got an update lately, but last I knew it was over 350K on the original V10 and auto trans...neither has ever been open!

I dunno, but the wreckmaster in me cringes at the sight of the operator standing behind the truck with the bed still at that angle.
