New study finds that 53% of Millennials believe they will one day be millionaires. Despite that, 25% say they'll never marry and 30% plan on never having children. Nearly 1-in-5 report that they they still rely on their parents for financial support. They expect to retire at 56, though won't start saving for retirement until age 36. My friend just evicted her (closer to middle aged) son from her home. He signed a lease to rent and did not pay rent for over a year. Took getting the sheriff involved. Pathetic. I have no doubt he still thinks he will end up with her home after she dies. And yes, he has children scattered across the country that he does not raise.
Just trying to keep it positive.. My niece, 26, owns her home for 2 years, worked as diesel mechanic through college. Now manages bobcat dealership in southern NH. Also at Well Seasoned GTG Brian's son Matt and his friend, along with Mason (saewoody) and fishingpol, son, forgot his name, were awesome young men!! In short, a lot has to do with upbringing.

Mark and Christina Rotondo were forced to the extreme-parenting measure after giving their layabout millennial boy Michael cash for moving expenses, pleading with him to get on with his life and finally sending written legal notices demanding he grow up and move out. “Michael, After a discussion with your Mother, we have decided that you must leave this house immediately,” reads the first letter, dated Feb. 2. It concludes: “You have 14 days to vacate. . . We will take whatever actions are necessary to enforce this decision.” They later offered him $1,100 to “find a place to stay” and gave him parental advice including, “organize the things you need for work and to manage an apartment” and “sell the other things you have that have any significant value.” They even implored him to start making money. “There are jobs available even for those with a poor work history like you. Get one — you have to work!” the Rotondos wrote. But nothing moved Michael from his epic failure to launch — that is until an equally fed-up judge’s ruling Tuesday forced him to accept adulthood. Michael was furious. “It’s really unfair to me and really outrageous,” said the son — a self-described “businessman” who has a young boy of his own, of whom he lost custody. “I really don’t want to stay there,” he told The Post from a bus after his life-altering court loss. “I’ve been trying to leave there for a long time. They stopped feeding me, they cut me off the family phone plan.” Asked if he thought mom and dad were merely trying some tough love, Michael sounded like a child who’d just been punished. “I don’t think trying to destroy somebody is tough love,” he griped.
I believe this incident was right up the road from you near Syracuse. Yeah I was AWOL most of the winter. I mentioned it somewhere else. My MIL passed away in Nov. and we spent the next 5 months getting things taken care of. I've only been able to do any internet interacting for the last month or so. Trying to get caught up in a lot of places.
Agreed that upbringing has a lot to do with it...except maybe for the occasional kid corrupted by bad friends. Unfortunately I think there are 8 or 9 "more typical" lazy millennials for every 1 like your niece. I have mentioned here before about the 2 "summer help" college kids we have a work...1 a good worker, the other not (and totally due to their parenting too!) The lazy one said he wasn't coming back this year, but then decided to return due to not finding "anything better". But after a week was complaining about why he ever came back because he hates it. They are paid $10 per hour and in my opinion aren't worked very hard on most days. So on Wednesday "lazy boi" announces that it was his last day, he was starting Thursday morning for a landscaping company making $14 per hour..."hasta la vista babay! I'm betting by now he is realizing how many more expended calories that extra $4 per hour is gonna cost him good luck dude! Hope it all works out for ya...
