Indiana deer rifle test and tune my house This Sunday. Shotgun poker at 3:00 pm sharp. My tenpoint crossbow will be here Monday. Week late but what the hell can I do about that.
Been out bowhuntin twice this fall. Freakin summertime temps are keepin me out of the woods till probly next week. We had a nice cold snap but now it's in the mid 80's and humid. Deer aint movin till dark round here
Same here Noting much here either. Temps are going to fall here pretty quick though. I have 3 guns to complete tonight and sighting them in Sunday. Ok 4 forgot one of the muzzleloader.
Went out opening weekend and was fortunate to shoot the deer Ive been chasing for three years. I almost didn't know what to do now since that is the only deer I focused on this last year and that was the only buck I was going to go after. He was a very smart deer, 6.5 years old and has always been very elusive. The last two years I messed up one time and he disappeared for the rest of the season. Opening day I didn't hunt because the wind was wrong, but the next night it was better and I slipped in through a corn field. About 30 minutes before dark I was watching tow little bucks under my stand and they kept looking back into the brush but I couldnt see anything. Finally he slipped out of the brush and I almost fell out of the tree. The buck I had been after for three years was standing right in front of me. I about lost it but fortunately he took his time and made every move very slowly and alert. He gave me time to calm myself down. After what felt like forever he turned and walked to the side and gave me a perfect broadside shot. Drew my bow two times, the first he stopped behind a bush, then finally he stopped in the open and I made the shot. He only went 50-60 yards and piled up. Crazy, Ive waited three years for that moment and it happened on my first night out.
I know i said it on the old forums but swags that ol boy is huge! I didnt see the second pic before. What's his spread? That's great to be able to take a 6.5 yr old deer, especially one you've been watching. Way to go man
thanks guys, that deer is the highlight of my whitetail hunting. Ive never put that much focus, energy and time into one deer. Im very excited to see it come through with an ending like this.
Looks like a great day in the woods, as if there is any other kind of day in the woods. Nice work and persistence.
I'm a die-hard hunter.....I love archery season, turkey and bear seasons, especially late winter muzzleloader and also the spring gobbler seasons.... My youngest son is old enough to hunt this year, so I'm super-excited for that....I'm going to try and help him get his first buck. Heck I don't care if I even get a shot at a deer, I just want to see him get a chance.... Archery season started last weekend here, I won't be going out for another week or two....I enjoy hunting during the rut, and that is a little ways off yet.....
Im finally back from vacation and sooooooo ready to hit the stands! The 44 and ML optics will have their annual check this weekend. The bow is driving tacks. My 12ga hasnt killed a deer since I bought the marlin 1894 ss. For poops and giggles, I stopped into bass pro in knoxville Friday nite. Their reloading isle was cleaned out....just like everywhere else in America Thank god I am smart enough to hoard more than firewood!
