I have to be careful with trees around my house. It was rented to someone who had a couple horses while his house and barn was being built down the street in the late 40ies. There galvanized wire trapped in quite a few of the trees, some of it still coiled up hanging off a tree. I figure better to leave it so someone down the road time-wise knows it is there than cut it off and destroy the evidence. I hit a heavy hook in an oak tree last fall from either a clothes line or a hammock.
What freaks me out is when the chain CUTS THROUGH the nails. It wrecks the cutters most certainly, but how does it go through them?? Bizarre.
Bought a new chain last Friday for the 290 and Sunday afternoon was lucky enough to find a friggen hidden chunk of pagewire Bought one of these but a different name on sale for $25 a couple months ago and finally tried it yesterday. http://tools4thegarden.co.uk/silverline-electric-chainsaw-sharpener For a cheap little machine they sure do work great!! Tried the 'new wrecked chain' lastnite and it was almost like it was Friday loon
I find that wire all the time HD Here we are today with that little sharpener and was the best 25$ i've spent in quite awhile..
That's cool , take that little sharpener right along with you. Do you have an inverter on your truck ?
Glad to be here, thanks for the invite, looks like a great bunch and I'll be stickin around for awhile.
The parsonage is some former Victorian mansion. Attached church building itself dates to mid-late '50's.They sit on roughly 5 acres total, just over half of that is heavy woodland, with east property line bordering a creek that runs through part of the older neighborhood.Very steep drop offs on most of north & east sides, large concrete bridge that spans the creek on south side with a semi busy residential street. Most of the houses/buildings in area date to 1920's or a bit older - this parsonage is much older & was practically considered "out in the country" before the surrounding area was built up.
Sounds like a very nice place, lots of character. We have been working on finishing our new building for about 5 yrs now. Trying to build it without taking on any debt. The economy here has gotten so bad with the Feds shutting down our woods, there is hardly any logging or mining going on, all the mills are shut down, the forest are locked down so tight local folks can hardly get firewood anymore. Most of our able bodied workerbees have either moved out, because there are no jobs if you dont work for the FEDs, or they are working in N Dakota in the oil fields. So it's hard times for most out here in Montana. God has Blessed us with this business that allows me to employ some folks so they can stay here. Were about 50 miles west of Glacier National Park, which they have also shut down. Ah the joys of living under a Government that spends money like water and acts like King George.....
Woody, nice area you live in. Spent a little over a week in Yaak a few years ago. Sweet little town. Plenty of brews at 'the dirty shame'. They helped us out pretty good one night with some after hours gas. You know Jerry Smith?
Hey Pyroholic, you been stompin in my neck of the woods at the "World Famous Dirty Shame Saloon". Don't know Jerry Smith, I think., sounds like a outsider... Most folks in these parts go by the same kind of names you guys have, Pryo, Trapper, Scooter Shooter, Uncle Bunky, Slowhand Joe, Shorty, Koo Koo Boyde, Bear, Long Bow, Woody, you get the idea. You've been here, what else would you expect from a community that lives by the "Three S's" (shoot, shut up and shovel!) Folks up here will die for each other and are some of the greatest folk I have ever found anywhere. Did you know that one of the stars from Gun Smoke lived up here and the Rat Pack (Sammy Davis JR, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra) used to come up here and hang out at the Shame and roam the valley and raise hell. Lots of history up here. They don't call it "The Last Best Place" for nothing. It's not surprising they helped you with gas, if you come in peace, folks up here are very friendly. Come up here with ill intent, there is a good chance you'll end up naked, tried to a tree, smeared with honey during Grizzly mating season........ My neighbor is Tom Oar from "Mountainmen", on the History Channel Here are a bunch of videos for folks who are curious about this place I have called home for a long time now. https://www.google.com/search?q=you...=93&espv=210&q=Yaak,+Montana+site:youtube.com
I do remember hearing about the rat pack and others hanging in yaak. Jerry has been in yaak for 20 years or so, but not sure what the locals may call him. Definitely the most pristine, naturally beautiful, places I've been. Great place with great folks and rough weather.
Man it sounds like it's time for you to invest in a Tungsten Carbide chain...... Little price but then you can cut a car in half if you want.
I watch Tom Oar on Mountain men... Seems to be one heck of a nice guy! I had to laugh when his wife said that his kids want them to come visit,,, he looked like the rug was pulled out from under him, no way was his heart into leaving where his soul loves to live.. Love to meet that guy someday...
I would love to meet Tom Oar, I think he seems like the real deal and the kind of guy I respect. I hope he is the same off camera as he ssems on tv. I keep telling my wife I want to move to the yak valley.
No I don't have one but my buddy swears by them and they are the only chain he will run. I always had a hard time swallowing the price they wanted for them and 90% of the cutting I do is on mine or my Dad's property so we don't really get into to much metal.
