Methinks insanity is not the right word but not sure if there is a word to describe this stupidity. For sure I would never live in a place like that. It was bad enough they put a fine in place but the amount of the fine is really out of order.

This is what happens when government is given too much power.

Just remember, government is given its’ power by the people. If government is over-reaching, vote out the current representation and put new in.

Or, as Thomas Jefferson wrote: “ What country before has ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? ...from time to time the tree of liberty needs to be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

By the math, I'd rather spend 15 days living at their expense than pay out 22.5k too. I'd also spend the rest of my life making their jobs and lives a living hell as much as I could while being within the law.

So it seems that this is a civil fine for cutting the trees and it is a criminal act to not pay the fine? I wonder if based on the amount of the fine whether it would be considered an misdemeanor or a felony. It seems like one would need to be charged with a crime before spending time in jail for something like this.. that would get the individual his day in court and hopefully use a jury of his peers to nullify the regulation against all future enforcement. I’d be happy to serve on that jury...

You can vote the reps out but it is another matter to get the existing laws out. So getting new faces in is not usually going to solve existing problems, sad to say.

Hence the second part of my post- maybe it’s time for a rebellion. One of the best books I have read in a long time is by deceased novelist Vince Flynn, titled Term Limits. It’s because a group of citizens start killing politicians who veered away from the founding principles of the nation. It is one of the most thought provoking and entertaining books I have ever read.

My town would also be charging daily interest from a due date to the current date.

Great book, loved the plot and testicular fortitude of the individuals portrayed.

I can't begin to verbalize the level of ape chit I would go for getting fined for this. Salt the earth type stuff would happen.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to add it to my list of books I need to read.

I live out in the country, in a sparsely populated County, and the beauty of that is there are no building permits, (except for a septic tank permit), and nobody bothers you if you want to cut down a tree or ten. The politicians in our County know they could never get away with BS like that.

They likely are against such madness themselves.

I would be tempted to chemically euthanize every tree in the immediate area. Hey...I wouldn't be *cutting them down, right? Permits Schmermits. Sometimes I can understand why that one fellow welded up his dozer and went on a destruction rampage.

If I were the homeowner, I think I'd be running for Mayor this fall. My entire campaign would be based upon this occurance.

Speaking of government officials...seems the mayor of this upstanding community that requires a permit to cut a tree 7" or larger has had some tax woes...imagine that?

It is krap like this that brings me to the brink of vigilante behavior. There is more than one way to skin a kat and this old cranky man becomes those self important pricks worst nightmare! You push your suposupposed authority or power on me I will find a way around it and your life will be a living hell because you couldn't get over yourself and the title you think I should be scared of. Don't mess with cranky old hicks, we don't mess with other people's lives until your stupid gets on us but when it does we can be a ruthless bunch. I've seen me do it before and it is not good!:smoke::jaw:

I have a friend in Sandusky, Oh. that took that route back in '09. The gist of it was, he lived near a city park and was tired of looking at the foot tall grass. which made the entire neighborhood look like a dump. He decided one day that since he was finished with his yard he would just keep right on going into the park. That's when the fun began.

Ohio man arrested for cutting grass in public park - Wikinews, the free news source

That year he ended up running for a seat on the board of commissioners and won the seat hands down. Since the whole city rallied around him when he was arrested, seems they carried that support right to the ballot box. I think it was 2 years ago that he retired from political life.
