I'm glad to hear the Ariens units are top notch. They looked really nice when I was shopping around a couple years back. Clearly, I had misread that they lacked a hydro filter vs. filter protector. That makes much more sense. I chose the Bearcat over the Ariens just because my local independent shop carried Bearcat and the Ariens was only avaulable at the big box for $500 more (not sure of current pricing). I'd rather give my $ got to my local dealer. He takes great care of me my and my equipment .
Nothing wrong with that Mike. Congrats on the new toy! I'm lucky enough that my regular dealer carries Ariens. I have a splitter and snowblower and I'm very happy with both. I'm totally with you. Anything I can do to support my local guy. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
I bought the 27 ton Ariens last summer. Very happy with the purchase, I use it year round with no issues although the Subaru can be a little tough to start in the dead of winter...Like most would be.
Does the manuel call for a lighter weight oil in the winter? Lighter oil will help improve cold starts.
I’ve come to the conclusion that once the deep winter freeze sets in, my wood splitting will resume in the late winter, early spring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I recall it only states to give it extra time to warm up and to cycle it a few times to warm up. Once it fired up everything was fine. I will say one of the days I did this was single digit temps, I think my cabin fever set in and I had the urge to split.
Likewise! I borrowed my old neighbors 22 ton country line last year. I had decent amount of wood to split & some big round as well and it ran and did everything I asked of it with ease. Am not very experienced so I don't have much to compare it to, but it ran and performed very well.
If you buy from a big box store, make sure you search for coupons online or even possibly buy them off ebay which may sound weird but search Home Depot coupons or Lowes, I know of people who use these with no issue.
A sniff of QuickStart/LiquidFire and you're off to the races , no reason to let OldMan Winter win , frozen wood splits better lol
With the thickening hydro fluid in the cold temps, I pulled the recoil off and chucked up a 3/4” socket and adapter in my 1/2” hammer drill (turned off the hammer function), and pulled the trigger- worked great with the idle all the way down on the splitter engine.
Some splitters had a belt drive hydro pump years ago. you started the engine then engaged the tensioner... wish they still had it.
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy with the new splitter!. Well, new to me. I found a used 27 ton Troy-bilt with a Honda engine on LG for $800. Thanks again for all of your input and advice. I'm on my way to becoming a hoarder.
