I took those three pieces of the fresh-cut White Birch and put them into my stove after wiping down the glass..

Well.. one inside lifted higher by the older pieces I had. The other two, next to the stove, on the hearth.

Those deck railings appear to be missing support blocks under the center of the lower rail.
    Like so:

They can be slid in afterwards post-sag but slowly moving the block towards the center over time.

Mike, that is a great idea. Perhaps I'll cut some birch and put in our stove too. Thanks for the idea.

So, while I was looking at the forum, my wife got the car unloaded. Well, I did help on a few things. I'm a bit sore and a little stiff from all the riding so probably not a lot will get done today, at least that is what Judy says.

Looking at the odometer, the trip was 1668.8 miles. Not bad. I haven't added up total gas but I think I averaged probably 34 mpg which I was very happy with because most of the trip was in excess of 70 mph.

Before leaving I prayed to God to have a safe and happy trip. Thank you Lord! I also asked that I not see any accidents on the trip and am happy to report that I saw absolutely no accidents. That is, no traffic accidents. I did come close to one in Buffalo. It was amazing as I was in the center lane and suddenly the vehicle in front of me quickly changed lanes and right in front of him was a truck and a car. I was going about 65 mph and they were going 15 mph...in the center lane of an Interstate highway! Thank the Lord for good brakes and thank the Lord that I was not rear-ended when I hit the brakes.

I got held up for a long time just after entering Canada. After customs, you have to stop and pay a toll to go across the bridge. I chose the lane that had only one car ahead of me. Wrong! I tried to back up to get into another lane that had no traffic but just as I did someone pulled in behind me. I was stuck. A long wait. When I got to the toll booth I apologized the the man thinking perhaps I goofed and got into the wrong lane. Nope. He said the two women in the car that held me up said they had no money! He had to have them sign a lot of things and I don't know what all but it took a long, long time. Then coming back into the States there was a long, long backup at Port Huron. My guess is it was from 30 to 45 minutes at least and perhaps longer. I know I got home a lot later than the Garmin had said I would. Now that I think about it, I do remember that I lost 50 minutes there.

But the big thing is that I made the trip and had a good time. No breakdowns. Only 2 accidents. One was I spilled a drink and where do you suppose it went? I was in heavy traffic and had taken a drink when stopped but then traffic started moving so just sit the drink between my legs. Had to make a quick stop and suddenly I was all wet. No way to pull off or stop.... I grabbed some paper towels and stuck under me but felt like I had peed my pants. Then on the way home I slobbered when taking a sip from my water bottle. Looked again like I'd peed my pants but it was not as bad as the first one. But all in all, the trip was trouble free.

I did stop at the Woodstock Soapstone factory on the way to Brian's and surprised a bunch of happy people. Had a good talk with Tom Morrissey (the owner). He also told me this year marks the 40th year with Woodstock. I do remember that when he bought the company he ran it for a few months while the owner was away and when he came back he asked Tom if he was interested in buying it. He was and it's been a good ride for him. I've only known him for 8 years now and we are very good friends. Also good friends with several of his employees.

As I stated before, my thanks go to Jack Straw and WeldrDave for housing me on this trip. Also a big thank you to Dawn and Brian for hosting the event.

My apologies for lack of pictures. I was able to take some but my camera petered out so did not get many. Most will just be very similar to what has already been posted so I'll just post one that I have not seen anyone post on this.

This thing is awesome. I'd like to have one like it. I like that the operator has a screen so he can see where the drone is and also that it can go a long ways before running out of battery. In addition, I understand that it has a built in safety factor so that it won't run into a tree or building. It surely makes the dogs wonder! lol

It was nice being able to take some pictures of Scotty Overkill while up in the tree and also when he was taking down the popple.

I just have to add one funny here. I have given a chain saw to ReelFaster who lives in NJ and not too far from WeldrDave. So rather than sending it through the mail, I brought it to the gtg so Dave could get it to him. Lo and behold, that almost did not get done! Fortunately, I had to return to Brian's Sunday morning before heading back because I had left my hearing protectors. Was almost ready to leave when suddenly Dave hollered at me. Seem he was talking to Canadian border VT and suddenly the subject of the chain saw was brought up. If Lyle had not said something, I would have taken that saw to NH and then back home and still would have had to mail it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a mind that still works?!!!

Special thanks to Lyle as I would have felt terrible that you would have had to go through the trouble to ship it after all. Your mind works just fine Dennis, all that means is that you were having a great time and wasn't thinking about anything except enjoying the moment and time with some fellow hoarders. Special thanks again and I look forward to catching up with WeldrDave.

What I did there was insignificant to the comraderie and friendships that were forged over the event......

I'm just glad to be a part of the family!
