March came marching in with January temps and ice and snow. It ends today with everything so coated with ice that it isn't safe to step outside. Right now it is sleeting out. The ground is still snow-covered and there is still some ice on the hot top driveway. The only good thing is that the daytime temps have just this week started to go above freezing. Very unusual for us to have so much snow cover this at this time. These bones are old, and have seen a lot. What I have seen in the past when winter doesn't want leave, is that it leaves in a rush when it does go. we can go from shoveling snow to mowing the lawn in three weeks. We can only hope it leaves soon. I just have a lot of fear of flooding. None for me. We are way up on a high spot, but there are areas where these old New England towns are right on the river's edge. It must have flooded back in the 1700 and 1800's but they continued to build and live there anyway. I am sick of being held prisoner by the weather. Time for a change.
It's supposed to be in the 60s again today, then back into the 40s for April. I would have thought that by now we would have had more than just one warm weekend.
I mentioned that thought too, about hoping we didn't have our typical spring blitz of flooding that always causes so much damage. We're on a hill too, but don't have to go far to get to the mighty Andy. Couple miles. With this amount of snow so late, you're right, it's not good. I'm ready too for a change.
If you look at an satellite view of where I live in relation to the Kennebec River (tide water) we look very close, but we are up very very high from the river. I think much of the state would have to go under before it got up this far. I have seen an ice jam cause flooding so bad that Gardiner's Water St. when under several feet. That makes it up into the second story of some buildings.
Today (only) right here it goes out like a lamb. Sixty degrees, sunny and spring fever is rampant. We haven't had a day this warm/nice since November. Starting tomorrow, back into the 40's.

I'd be happy for some 40's. It's snowing here now, which (should) means this storm is coming to an end soon. I have missed out on 2 full days of being outside, not happy about that. This weeks temps are supposed to be in the mid 40's, we shall see.
River & lakes still frozen over solid here. Salt water inlets & bays still has some ice. Not much snow in my area, but still cold enough weather to be able to walk on water .
Coast Guard sent an icebreaker up the river in hopes of preventing an ice jam. It comes up to the Gardiner bridge, then heads back down to the ocean. What we don't need is more rain that just melts snow and drains off.
When my bride and I were first married, we rented a house in Brewer, right on the Penobscot. Watched the 2 ice breakers come up quite a few times. Very impressive when the ice is really thick. They mean business.
