Just bought a 260 pro yesterday in great shape. I tried tuning it to the best of my ability today but I noticed the muffler gets extremely hot. So hot it has even burned a bit of the cover plastic. Any ideas on what’s causing this? Thanks.

Congrats on the 260 Pro, it's one of my favorite saws. I had the same problem with mine when I goe it a couple years ago, I also melted some of the top cover.

Thanks to FHC, it was a pretty easy fix. I changed the fuel filter and fuel line, and put a cooling plate between the muffler and gasket. I haven't had a problem since. You will have to re-tune when your done. Make sure you get all OEM parts. I tried two different after market fuel lines and they were both junk. Good luck and great saw!

Any chance it was because I didn’t put the muffler back on correctly after I took it apart? I had read on another forum that if u don’t put the muffler back up under the lip then the hot gases have a hard time escaping thus creating a lot of heat.

If you did not put it up under the lip, some of the gases will exit at the top and could melt the top cover. Hold the front cover on an angle and put it under the lip then hinge it down and bolt it on.
